So at 6.10 I heard the sound of scraping metal and saw a biker on the floor. 1 minute later another followed, looking at the road there is some form of black sticky mess across it, deposited by a council road/path sweeper.

Called police to report spillage who has passed on to Maidstone council. 5 mins ago another bike, a pricey Fireblade just took surfing lessons despite the sign I shoved up, albeit small, but it just says "Beware, oil on corner" on A4 in thick pen.. so may have missed it.

Called police to state another has gone down and asked for the time limit they have to get someone, they said they don't know and ring the council, fuck knows how at 7.50am on a Saturday Laughing Is there any specific time they are required to clean it? Doesn't look or sound nice when a few grand slides down the road.

Surely the fact theres already been two accidents at the scene makes it dangerous enough to require police to put up warning/stand by the roadside to alert drivers or something Shocked possible dead-bikers/bikes flying into on-coming cars vs patroling saturday morning for the last nights drunks sleeping in bushes Rolling Eyes ... Priority confusion much Thinking

When I reported dangerous gravel, the council got rid of it inside of three hours. I'd call that reasonable.

The stuff in the OP, however, should be coned off by the cops PDQ.

I reported oil being drizzled down my road from a neighbours car on my way into town one morning, council had chucked grit and sand down by the time I got home!

Did you call 999 or the police non-emergency number?
I was under the impression it was a 999 issue as it's causing accidents.

As the council know of it and it was caused by one of their vehicles are they liable for the insurance claims?

I would have thought 3 hours for the council to deal it is about right, but I would have expected traffic police to be there within minutes or at least a Traffic Womble just to warn people and cone it off.

I called the local police stations non-emergency line when there was a bad diesel spill in town and they told me to phone the council until I pointed out that the police were responsible for road safety and if someone came off their bike they'd be clearing up the aftermath Evil or Very Mad

Last year there was a 2mile line of diesel along the road in town.

I phoned the popo and they contacted the council or the HA emergency clean up crew who had it sorted with in 90mins, on a sunday....

The popo's reason for getting it sorted asap was "incase we need to send a unit down there with blues n twos on"

Drop some flour or similar near the spill and ring up the anti-terrorist hotline, saying you saw some beardie types yelling Allahu Akbar and think it might be Anthrax. Should close the road completely while they ensure the spill is thoroughly cleaned up.

As the mainstream media think chapati flour is high grade explosive you can plead all the ignorance you like, cos you read it in The Sun guv Wink

Better off saying you suspect someone is sending offensive tweets outside near an oil spill and they'll be there soon.
