Been reading for a while but thought I would poke my head above the parapet as I am hoping someone can answer my question.

I have been riding for about 6 months completed CBT and most of a DAS course(long story) but decided to buy a 125 to commute on and gain some valuable onroad experience as my main problem is confidence.

Enough of the boring background onto my problem. I have a 2013 ybr125. I have only had it 2 weeks and have been pottering about trying to break it in. Yesterday for the first time I took it above 30 to just over 40 mph and after a few minutes the engine made a bizarre noise and I lost power. I pulled over engine was running ok and I was almost home so slowly continued 2 mins later the same thing this time going about 25. Again after stopping it was running normally so I slowly rode it into my street.

Anyone else experienced this or have any idea what might have happened I have only rode it for about 60 miles in total and following manual guidelines for riding it in.

Thanks! And sorry for long post!

Could you describe the sound? And where it sounded like it was coming from?

It is kind of hard to describe. It sounded like a kind of loud whiney engine noise slightly screechy but quite deep not like a rubbing metal screechy. It made the noise for about a second or two. That probably doesn't help. It sounded to me like it was coming from the engine or that area. Also when it happened the bike slowed down but not sharply a bit like engine braking.

Thanks

Take it to Yamaha and get them to look at it. Thats what the warranty is for.

Has it got oil in it?

I'm not joking.

I'd have ragged it the first time it had warmed up properly.

Go back to Yamaha. Do not touch it, check for oil though.

Thanks for the replies.

I checked the oil and it looks fine. Spoke to the dealer today and booked it in for tomorrow. I've not touched it since it happened but they advised if it is running ok ride it down to them as they are not very far away and if any issues on the way down call RAC.
