I am keen to get my licence ASAP, can anyone suggest a good DAS centre in Surrey please, or do you know of anyone that's had a good experience somewhere?
Thanks

Hello! I'm also in Surrey and exploring the options... leaning towards doing the CBT at first and spending a few years on a 125 before progressing, partly to spread the costs and partly because I doubt I'd have to confidence to go from nothing to full-on big bikes in a week.

I did a freebie Get On session with Excelerate in Farnborough and I got a really good impression of them (small, friendly, family-run, really enthusiastic about what they do) although I was only there for an hour.

Used bikewize for my CBT. wasn't that impressed. Felt for the two students left waiting in the local cafe whilst me and another had our road rides done.

I've been looking around and I'm going to use west London motorcycles. www.betterbiking.net I've spoken to them via email and they've answered all my questions. They were also happy to show me around there training area and explained what they do. Hope that helps. They also have three bikes to choose from for the DAS and let me sit on them to get a feel for them.

EDIT: not Surrey as they are in Bedfont, near Heathrow but thought I'd mention my experience and I'm living in Surrey.

Just to back up West London Motorbike training, did Mod 1 with them on Monday, zero faults having only ever ridden a bike during CBT two weeks before.

Nigel the trainer is amazing, cant do enough for you and has a done a few advanced training bits with me while prepping for Mod 2 on Friday.....

They will also hire out 125cc bikes, well worth it if you don't already have a bike, great for learning at your own pace and reinforcing what you've learnt

that's a shame - don't let it put you off though. clearly instructors at schools are also slightly luck of the draw. some you'll get on with and others inevitably you won't. Much like your fellow students level of experience. You'd hope that a good school/instructor would suss this early on in the day and do what it needs to keep all looked after. Time to move on and try another! Good luck.

Did my 4th CBT (starting 8th year as first cbt last 3 years) today (second with Ridesure). It was a little different compared to the last one I did with them.

The last time I did it with them I left the day buzzin and smiling like an idiot. Today was the opposite, by lunch time I was counting down the seconds. Fortunately we went out for the road portion in different groups, so the day finished much more positively.

Bit of an eye-opener.

I also used Bikewize - took me from zero to full license in 5 days. Really good bunch of guys. Was really good value, and no bullshit with reduced excess or similar added costs for using their bikes either

What was an eye opener? Surely with 8 years on the road there wasn't anything you couldn't do already?

M&D Bike Training (based in Guildford)

Both Matt and Dave are great instructors and nice guys.

I had been riding my 125 for about 9 months when I wanted to do my full license. Everywhere I called wanted to sell me a 3 day or 5 day course regardless.

Whereas M&D said I should meet them at their training course in Woking so they could see how my riding was, then see what was needed. Had 2 days of training and off I went for my test (which i passed, incidentally).

They were also cheaper than anyone else I found for the 3 or 5 days DAS Thumbs Up

Having had some time to think about it, I think the reason I didn't enjoy the day was I miss-interpreted what seemed to be a fairly robust delivery and the intentions of the instructors. I started to over-think what was happening.
That's certainly more my problem and I need to address it before paying out a lot of money (and time) for DAS.

Went back to Ridesure for a days training on an 80bhp 600. Bit of classroom, with half the day spent on the mod1 course and the other half on the road.

Excellent day, went much better than I expected in terms of the step up in size, power, brakes and weight.

Looking to book Mod1 with them.

I did my big bike test with ACE in Epsom. Great bunch of people and are really on it with every mistake that you do and make sure you learn it correctly. Nice amount of decent bikes too.

https://www.aceridertraining.co.uk/index.html

I did my CBT with Bikewize and I was not impressed with them at all, they didn't seem that bothered and the bikes they got were a load of crap. Had one with a dodgy clutch and another bike which front tire burst within 5-10 mins of riding. Would avoid them if I was you.

I think 90% of their tests are at Burgess Hill. I went down there today just to ride around a bit, get a feel for the place. Seems a nice place to do a bike test.
