Hello all you amazing people of BCF I have heard so much about you all

After many years of my good friend Doovy bugging me to get a bike I am going for it. I took and passed my CBT about a year and a half ago and now want to get a nice bike (not 125). The next step is the theory test, that I have just booked.

Doovy has told me I know qualify to become a member of this forum he does not stop going on about.

So hi my name is Michael, I studied transport design at Coventry University and really love anything with wheels. Bikes are insanely kool, we had 2 guys design and clay up full models of their bike designs at uni, I cant wait to get hold of a bike.

Does anyone have any advice on revision for the theory test ? The iPhone app seems kool but is it worth it ...

Thank you for reading my post

Get a highway code book (sheets of paper with writing on all glued together, was all the rage before the internet) and memorise it.

Get a practice kit and do the hpt till you're hitting 90%, it's a computer game and like any game practice makes perfect.

Don't forget to take all your documents on the day.

Take the time to read through the instructions, if only to get relaxed and calm.

Don't be too disappointed with the blandness of the printout telling you youv'd passed.

Glad you signed up Mike! Thumbs Up

Just an FYI for BCF, Mike already has car license and has done the car theory a few years ago, but the bike one obviously has some specific ones that need learning.

Just read and re-read the motorbike specific questions, you should be fine with road signs and general road stuff for your theory test in a few weeks.

We just gotta get you your license than we can go ride Twisted Evil

Just explore BCF a bit, read some threads and get involved in some of the madness Laughing

I aced my theory by using the theory test app on my iphone. I also did a lot of research on the hazard perception test, trying to understand exactly what was expected of me in order to nail it.

Practice the hazard perception online tests you can find on the internet. There is also an iphone app, which has a couple of video tests, but not many. Still useful though, to give you as much experience prior to the test as possible.

The hazard perception test is the same as the one you did a few years ago for the car, so you should be fine there.

It's the bike specific questions you'll have to get up to speed with! I can talk it through with you too with my RR as a practical review Wink

Passed mine last Friday without any practice on the HPT, I used the "Riding Genius" iPhone app for the normal quetions and found it really useful.

25 years of driving a car so I just imagined I was out for a drive on the HPT and it worked for me.

Good luck.

Dont worry too much about it. If you have a modicum of common sense you will pass. Its almost unfailable.

I had my theory a few weeks back and used the iPhone app it worked for me!

Like othes have said just look at your hazard perc clips on the net. I was dreading it but its a lot easier than you think.

Tip for the hazard perc. Click when you spot it, click again straight after of u click to early it won't register! Then click again when it becomes an actual hazard.

Good luck.

I passed my theory and cbt a few weeks ago. I used the iPhone app, I just went through each section and then went over the questions I got wrong until I could answer each question correctly. I got all 50 questions correct on the actual test.

As I passed my car test in 2001 the hazard perception was all new to me. I just went online and found a few free practice websites and had a couple of attempts that way until I got the feel for it. I ended up scoring 53 points for the HP part.

It also helps if your iPhone is jailbroken as (I've been told Wink ) that this can unlock all the questions on the theory test app for free.

I bought actual DSA books for £15. Hardly used them.

Bought Vialsoft Driving Theory test for phone. Used it loads. Cycled through all the tests once. Got 50/50 on actual test.
Using it on phone just seems easier, it's always with you when you can grab 5-10mins to do it. And much cheaper than the books.

The HP. I got a DVD with 100 examples or something. Needed it. Always scoring the hazard too early to count. Might just have been me.

Can happily say getting phone app is a good idea.

I mean who knows for how long you need to keep doing compressions for someone who has stopped breathing.....or something like that. The theory test has moved on a bit in 10 years.

EDIT: Shit, forgot, hello and welcome Smile
Bikes are the coolest things ever. Get at least one.

I am doing my Theory on Saturday this week, I have found this to be pretty helpful, it gives random questions so you can test yourself more.

Good luck!

There are about seventeen billion online versions of the test - even the DVLA have one. They are all comically out of date compared to the actual one you will do. Here is an example of the online questions:

As usual, your butler is walking ahead of your vehicle with his red flag flying when you notice your gauntlets do not match properly. Do you

a). Horsewhip the man at the roadside until he learns the errors of his ways

b). Chastise and denigrate the proletarian fool for not ensuring your motoring regalia is correctly coordinated

c). Take a lifesaver glance over your shoulder and continue as though all is well with the world

d). Abandon this frivolous vehicular hobby altogether and obey Kitchener's command to help the war effort by enlisting in an infantry battalion to help your fellow countrymen as they wallow helplessly in the rat infested filth of the Ypres salient, waste deep in mud, the decomposing limbs of long dead comrades poking from the walls of the trenches - beckoning, perhaps...yes, beckoning. Beckoning to you to join them in death's eternally silent embrace.

M12HA3L Just seen someone else offer up a training DVD. I've got a Hazard Perception DVD with a bunch of clips on it. It shows where your clicks were and where the scoring points were. It was useful to me. If it would be of use to you, pm me your postal address and it's yours fella.

The multiple choice questions are fully within your control. If you learn the stuff properly, you can ace that part of the test.

The hazard perception is, frankly, a pile of crap and the best way to do well on that is to play the system.

There's lots of good advice on this thread

Good god none of those responses! Trick question isn't it old chap? Obviously I make my way to the premises in Snatchsniffing Street of Fondle & Grope (gauntleteers to the Extremely Rich est.1066) and have a new pair made from the finest Tibetan Llama hide.

I was not expecting so many great respnses

Thank you all very much, I think you are all right I need to just read up on the highway code and practice. I got hold of an iPhone app that Doovy recommended. @Andy_Pagin you are right, I need to just read up.

So far I think I should be okay with the questions as was pointed out brilliantly by@trevor saxe-coburg-gotha, i get what you meant Smile @thepuma yeah I should be ok Wink

I worry I will click too many times again for the hazard perception thats all. @Bozzie08 I know what the videos are and get when they say click ... but it is not totally clear precisely when I need to click Sad I want to know with absolute precision.

Thank you for a great welcoming from you all Very Happy
