I have booked my first car lesson Sad It's wrong, and I will never, ever own a car (works of the devil), but stuff is coming up where I will need to drive a car.

My counterpart licence (full 33hp) has Category B in the list of provisional entitlements, so I take it this and my plastic licence are all I need to show to the instructor?

Cheers Very Happy

I most certainly have Wink

Am I right in thinking that I will have the upper hand? As I have driven cars and know the rules and ways of the road from being on the bike?

You will have a massive advantage in knowing road positioning and the rules of the road.

I did it the other way round, but as I had a car license on my cbt I,had to go first.

My mate did a weeks pass course, he had bikes before that and passed that way too.

Just don't try to filter.

Car licence is always handy I've never had one myself,

I've worked as a car and bike mechanic for years and have never driven a car on a public road, I know not having a licence cost me a few job opportunities over the years but it hasn't been essential as of yet.

The only thing that I get pissed of about is having to get people to collect things or tow things for me.

b licence includes the b1 sub set (light vehicles, quads, trikes etc) so long your vehicle is under 550kg and designed for a single operator you don't need a qualified driver under the b1 category although if it has two seats you still need a qualified driver, So If you just want 4 wheels buy yourself a single seater quad or superlight sports car just tax,mot and insure slap L plates on and go.

Only in GTA are the roads wide enough for you to filter in a car.

Enjoy your cage. Don't be upset how sluggish it is and don't rev the tits off it trying to go faster, the instructor won't approve.

When i'm with my mum in her Hyundai I30 ( Embarassed ) I'm always like "go on overtake that old woman" and she says "the car can't do it", then I say "well my bike could do that effortlessly". Are all normal cars like that? Confused

Not if you drop it down a cog or two.

Sounds like she was granny-shifting, not double-clutching like she should.

She was lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake..

Yes - and, with those brogues of yours, you'll have the upper foot too!

D'y'see?

It's the way I tell 'em! Or, if you will, the manner in which I convey the sentiment - it is arguably quite unique, and intended to amuse, and heighten levels of conviviality generally. I could go on, but concision is a virtue in matters such as these and I suspect I have already said a little too much.

The bike and car theory tests are different bits of paper.
I'm thinking you need the car theory test pass certificate as well.

Don't know about the sensible shoes. Thought the de-rigour choice was trainers not laced up. I think the baseball cap worn backwards has fallen out of fashion but you could try it for the retro Twocker look.

Best of luck.

Thumbs Up

I believe you can start both at the same time. Fuck, my instruction mentioned that people often do the theory in the middle of their practical lessons.

IMHO: Do it first to get it out of the way.

No it will help to get it out of the way though.

I had my bike licence for a bit before doing my car test, and it was easy. It was just a matter of adjusting to the controls of the car instead of learning to actually drive. I passed after about 8-10 hours of lessons.

IMHO I think it depends on the instructor policy.

I know of one bike training place that wouldn't take you on unless you had the theory pass. So I suspect some car places may be the same.

Might be worth checking up. Although a bit silly if they don't tell you until they turn up for a lesson then refuse to take you.

HTH Thumbs Up

I rang them up (AA driving school) and they say that a theory pass is not needed to start lessons...I will book it after the first lesson though Smile

Hmmm this if successful and my memory serves me correct it entails trusting your licence to the black hole of Swansea, sorry the Department of Various Lost Articles, erm DVLA via Royal Fail, sorry Royal Mail.

Notarised copy by a member of the funny handshakes club as back up, just in case. Or 'misplace' your licence and get a 'replacement' that you can magically find, should you need to Wink
