I have used a variety of lubes on my bike, from wax to normal stuff. Currently using Agip Chain lube that seems to dry out quite quickly.

Does anyone have any views as to what is the best lube, also how often should you lube the chain (I was told every 200 miles) & whether it should be cleaned everytime you apply new lube?

Thanks
H

Castrol chain wax is my chain lube of choice, usually every two weeks was my previous regime.

However, buy a scottoiler... its easier and better in the long run! Thumbs Up

If not google for Loobman, they are cheaper and not as efficient, but they do the job!

I am pretty sure that if not number one the top three qualifier would certainly be the Pro Honda HP Chain Lube.

It's a bit more expensive than other brands as it's a factory lubricant but the can is pretty big as well.

It's absolutely the best one I've ever used since it dries VERY fast, as well as lasting on the chain and best of all is colourless so it doesn't leave ugly stains on white rims.

I would without a doubt recommend it to anyone! Thumbs Up

A can around here costs about 8£

What problems can arise from not lubing the chain regularly? I haven't lubed once and I've ridden about 800-900 miles, not good?

The chain gets tight spots and then can snap causing lots of serious damage.

Also it wears quicker and as such you end up spending more money sooner on new sprockets and chain.

How difficult is it to replace the front sprocket? I was thinking of down gearing.

A wet chain in opposed to a dry one can equate into 2-3 HP. Keep the chain WET & adjusted!

I always clean the chain up a bit. Adding fresh lube to a dirty chain can turn it into a grinding paste with all the road grit, and knacker your chain much quicker.

I've run out of normal spray on chain lube, I'm just using engine oil at the moment. Seems to work...

I've used 2 stroke oil and duckhams 20w50w before too Laughing.

But at the moment I use Putoline X11 Racing Lubricant, I know my GS aint a racing bike but it seems to fling less onto the rear wheel and swing arm than normal stuff and its better on the chain than them places eh?

Where can I get sprocket/chain set from for an NSR125? I've looked at the Demon Tweeks catalogue, but I have no idea how many teeth the sprockets have or which type of chain it is.

Well you could count the teeth on the sprockets, or just find out what the standard amount is Smile I am sure demon tweeks or your local bike shop will be able to advise you on which chain to get and how long it should be.
