Help choose a bike!

A friend of mine, 23, who has spent 2 years getting used to big bikes on his current 2007 GSXR600 wants a newer, BIG bike now and he has narrowed his choice down to a BMW S1000RR or a Kawasaki ZZR1400. Both will be the face lifted bikes, so 2012 models, I would say. Budget £10K.
Tough choice. He won't do track days (I like to do a few), so maybe the better road bike would be the big Zed Zed...but then the Beemer has almost as much power and is nearly 40kgs lighter.
What would you buy from those 2 bikes?

Clearly he's got a fair few quid to be buying one of those, but has he considered the insurance costs on those? Even after a couple of years riding, it could be pretty harsh!

I think he is in for about £2,000 a year, for insurance, as he has full n-c-d since he started out on small bikes at 17.

(Incidentally, I think motorcycles are incredible value for money, as a rule. A well equipped diesel Ford Mondeo company car repmobile can cost £30,000 these days, yet look what £10,000 gets you on two wheels! A mint ZZR1400, for one, which will run alongside a £200,000 supercar on performance.
A basic Panigale at £15,000...the same price you can pay for a diesel Ford Focus with no extras!)
