I'm looking to go in to Europe next year. May or June or both. Looking at France Spain and Portugal. Any one interested is sharing the cost's of hotel's.

I'm booked in for surgery at the hospital soon. Once that's done and I get the all clear. I'll have a better idea of what I'm going to do.

If you could roughly outline where you intend to go, What you want to see/visit maybe others will have a better idea of your intentions.

Unfortunately I`ll be heading down that way a month later for 4-6 weeks, probably en-route to Faro for the Rally held the 3rd weekend in July. Taking the most least direct route possible to enable me to take in some Spanish & Portuguese Local bike rallies. With touristy stuff during the week days. Finishing off around Chaves at the end of July (for the rally) and ride through the Picos de Europa before heading home

John,

There's a new route down to Spain now, making it even easier to skip France.

Brittany Ferries aren't a bad price, but their monopoly meant they had no incentive to cut prices.

LD Lines are now running a route from Poole to Santender.

I just paid £325 for two return on Brittany, LD Lines quote comes in at £179

It's an opener. As I said I'm going in to hospital to have surgery. So I'll have a better idea after that what I can and can't do. If any one want's to go. They will post up.

Wow that LD Lines quote's good. Having just read that tried to get a quote for June next year but kept getting rejected, wondering if they have a sailing schedule sorted for then?

I don't see how they can do it longer term for that, Hull-Zeebruge or Rotterdam - for two plus bike return - is £194 in November

Just looked on the LD Lines website and could see no provision for motorbikes on the Poole to Santander route Sad

I appreciate what you say, but your OP did seem a little vague as to where you wished to go. Maybe re-posting the invite after you`ve recovered with slightly more specific details will get more interest

I wish you a speedy recovery

That's probably why I`m unable to get a price for the crossing next June/July/Aug

There is no availability to book beyond 19th Jan at the moment.

I assume they are getting a bigger calculator ready to add prices for dates after this to somewhere near what Brittany ferries charge.

Why skip France? There are some great roads, great food and some great sights.

Me and Missus are getting Ferry to St Malo then heading down Atlantic coast to Western Pyrenees, riding the Pyrenees with Barcelona and MotoGP being the destination. After that, through France and into the Alps.

We're getting the overnight boat rather than cross channel sailings only because we've got around 650 mile journey to whatever south coast port we choose to cross from. Stayed in channel port towns in the past and either side of the channel I can't say I found them very appealing. This way we miss them out, get a decent nights sleep and still get to ride some great parts of France on the journey south.

Sorry to disagree but imho Roscoff is one of the prettiest places in Brittany with a good range of eateries and hotel's.

I meant the short channel crossings - Dover/Folkestone - Calais/Bolougne etc..

I agree, Brittany is a great part of France that we've visited many times. One of the reasons I find it strange that people would choose to bypass it by boat.

Bear in mind that it there will be lots of WW1 events going on around the time you're planning to travel. Availability and prices on the eurotunnel/ferries are sure to be affected by this.

Hi John

Just recently returned from a trip though France, Spain and Portugal. I ride a BMW F800 ST and am also looking for someone to join me on my next trip. We stayed in some good hotels and the average cost including breakfast was just over £24 per night. We took the ferry from Portsmouth to Saint Malo and then another ferry from Saint Nazaire to Northern Spain. This was a very cheap way of getting near the action quickly.

I am a careful rider and am not into riding at silly speeds. In Spain 65 to 80 MPH is in my view quite fast enough to enjoy the ride. I have a house near Santa Pola (Spain) which makes a very cheap stop over (free). What to know a bit about me just ask.

Derek
