No, you need to do mod 2 and get a pass certificate before you can take L plates off.

How easy is it... well can you ride a bike and stop safely? That is about it.

The test is easy but it is also very easy to fail. e.g missing shoulder checks, foot down on u-turn and not reaching required speed. Anyone of these is enough to fail you on. If you don't get nervous on the day though you will ace it.

1) Yes of course (although they must be reattached prior to use on public roads)
2) Extremely difficult (unless you have some familiarity with controlling a motorcycle)

In relation to this, I am doing my cbt Wednesday and mod 1 and mod 2 in the spring next year. If you are a capable rider and sensible road user do you need countless lessons after perhaps one lesson for some one to point out any habits or issues then into the test? Question applies to mod 1 and 2?
Thanks

Depends how they are attached.

I find that the front clampie on ones that jubilee clip round the fork slider can be a bit tricky... the captive nut in the back doesn't stay captive as you undo the screw, so as you slacken it off, you find that you are chasing the clip around the fork, turning, but not undoing it.....

Rears tend to be a lot easier; usually just a couple of plastic M^ number plate screws through the back mudguard; of they dont play ball you can often just cut the bolt with a stanley knife.

Stick-On ones? CAN be a bit of a pain. You need to be careful, yanking them off brutally, they dont pull of paint or decans from beneath; but its getting a corner to start them off thats the bastard! Corse you don't want to use a stanley blade, or you'll gouge paintwork beneath!

Some say that parafin or zippo lighter fluid helps, but I have known this attack some paint; I preffer old fasioned washing up liquid and hot water; the hot water can help make the L-Plate more 'plastic' and less likely to tear, though probably takes longer.

While; after removal, you often find shaddow stain where L-Plate has protected paint beneath from fading in the sun, so you are left with L-Plate patch of different colour... Use T-Cut, it can get rid of last lingering L-Plate adhesive, as well as polish paint back to matcing colour.

Yes - yes he did. And the award this year is a standard BCF trophy finished in badly tarnished brass (think of it as patina), and a packet of McCain's frozen chunky croquettes. Well done Mike - those goodies winging there way to you soon.
