Hi ,

Does anyone have time lapper and would like to share their experience about the software and if they are any good.

I want to buy qstarz 1000 which is 10Hz logging ( 10 times more logging than my iphone thus more detailed information of every corner)

They are £120ish on amazon and seem to have a good software.

Any one has used them ?

Do you need one? What exactly do you want to achieve with one?

find my lap times and how deviating from the racing lines can help/worsen the laptime.

for instance braking late etc or braking early and getting back on throttle early and their impact which the device listed should be able to show these ( it shows your speed and corner entry at each point).

Firstly, do you mean a lap timer, or a tim laper?
Secondly, is this for the sv?

Meh, I get a print out from the pit bike stuff 'cause of my transponder.

It's quite funny to see how inconsistent I am. Laughing

ys lap timer sorry.

I have done few but mostly can be used for cars as well.

The pit does give you the print out which is good to know how consistent you are and how you have performed however you do not know why you were faster or slower at a specific lap which the device i am thinking of buying can tell you .

you can look at the lap and how you have cornered etc

Considered a camera instead?

Output isn't as easy to analyze statistically, but it will contain more information.

no because it doesn't give you much information on what your speeds were at each corner and how taking the corner different ways has impacted the overall lap time

Again I'll ask a valid question. Are you able to analyse the data? You couldn't spot a nail in your rear tyre, showing a graph of throttle position vs corner entry and exit speed and degree of lean is likely to go over your head...?

But graphs are bad ass. Cool

The device is a GPS timer and nothing more, get an android phone with GPS + RaceChrono free app.

The device will not show you any real meaningful data imo.

what the logger shows me is not lean angle etc but rather my speed at the corner and the line I took.
This way I can analyse it without over complicating stuff to find out for instance braking late and taking a different line impact on the laptime , does that makes sense ?

re android and software, I have that. I have harries lap timer on my iphone but that is only 1hz thus one spot per second where as the qstartz is 10hz so a lot more detailed on drawing the line

I guess no one is bothered using these devices hence why not see much benefit but I think you would get some benefit from them and thought maybe people on here have used it so can share the experience

Hi

What is your budget?

How about one of these:-

https://www.vboxmotorsport.co.uk/index.php/en/products/performance-meters/vbox-sport

Designed for performance testing, 20Hz, and just uses a phone as a data store. About £300.

Or if you want video:-

https://www.vboxmotorsport.co.uk/index.php/en/products/video-loggers/video-vbox-lite

10Hz, but 2 cameras and logging.

By the way, I tried an older slower Qstartz thing a few years ago. While it worked OK I seemed to lose quite a lot of the logs.

All the best

Keith

I don't have one yet, but the vbox data of my fellow Caterham competitors is stunning (in a very geeky way). It seems from observation that those with data are higher up the finish order and more importantly qualify better.

Small correction - the vbox sport stores on SD, but can use a phone for in car display. I'll be getting one for next season...

As for track days, they are often banned. Get a race license and head out to test days instead! Proper overtaking Smile

If we get a chance some time hopefully we can meet up and you can try the vbox video I have. Just don't do this Laughing

All the best

So you've gone from not knowing your arse from your elbow, to thinking your SV was a sports bike and better than an R6, to doing a couple of trackdays to wanting to get a datalogger? In about six weeks or so.

Hmmmm Confused

There is an iPhone app called Diablo Super Biker which you can set up for track use and as far as I can see it will record lap times and show your speed at any particular point as well as lean angle. Give that a go first.

Why can I ask, are you putting the sv on a track?

I don't know why you made funny comments but yes I am using the lap timer to better my times and had my sv for over 4 month now

Perfectly valid comments.

What group do you ride in, and what tracks have you done? I'm pretty much slap bang in the middle of inters now and I know a lap timer won't make a difference - more track time will. My Daytona has a lap timer on the speedo, for when I remember to use it.
