Hey hey

I've just out a exhaust system for the sxv and I'm going to get it mapped at a aprilia tuner. He said he is going to upload the factory race maps. And they are generic maps for said exhausts, filters ect also going to balance TBs.
my question is. Does the mapping adjust fuel AND timing or just one of them?
I was originally looking to fit a power commander but that only does the fueling.

What do you guys think?

Most likely you could do the same thing with a £20 cable off ebay and a laptop Thumbs Up That's what I did when it came to mapping my old 690, £50 for someone else to do it, or less than half to buy the equipment and make sure the correct map was installed. Piece of piss really and makes you feel clever.

The ignition map will not need to be changed much at all if your not going to be running on race fuel or 100RON etc. Ignition mapping changes normally are only needed when internal engine mods have been done such as big bore kits, high compression pistons etc.

Fuelling is more important, but saying that on any EFI bike these days if I was contemplating buying a power commander etc, it's pretty shit if it can only change fuelling parameters. I would on somethime like an SVX550 be erring towards the factory dealer re-map or EPROM chip etc, as it's a pretty complicated and highly strung engine as std, and a I'm not sure id trust a downloaded generic map to keep said engine from blowing up, especially if it's altering the ignition mapping as well.

Thanks for the info guys.
Irn bru. You got anymore info on these cables and software? I've read a bit about them but started to get a bit confused.
I'm happy to do this as I did it with my PC on the r1 and uploaded different maps.

The only issue I can come across is I know I'll need the carbs balancing and I DONT have a clue about this. He was only goin to charge me £30 to upload the map. Would be better to do it at home as I can fit the exhaust myself then.
