Just thought I'd post a quick note to say hi.
Plans are to do my direct access in a few weeks time and then get something like a Suzuki bandit or possibly Kawasaki ZX-6R. Good choices?....

Hello and welcome to the mad house.
Well good luck with all your DAS stuff I'm sure it will all go well.
What bike you choose to get depends really on what you want to do with it. The Bandit is slightly more forgiving than a ZX6R but neither are that difficult and if you're able to pass your DAS then you should be fine on either. Are you looking for a weekend toy, or something to use a day to day tool for getting to work, and general going places?
The Bandit is considered a slightly more sensible bike, but you still can be quite mad and dangerous on any bike, so it's down to how you're going to ride and use it than the bike, so I'd choose which ever suits you the best.
The other thing I'd say, before you put money down on a bike, after passing your DAS test go to a shop explain your situation have a look around at what they have in there, then if there is anything which takes your fancy then ask if you can test ride it as thats the best way of choosing which bike is the best for you.
Most 600cc bikes like a Bandit or the ZX6R will have the same running costs so there won't be much difference in them all really which is one less thing to have to be worrying about.
Happy hunting.

Hi
Personally I would say that if you are doing DAS with no other experience then I would stick with a fairly restrained bike. 600 Bandit, Hornet, GPZ500, 600 Fazer or the like would be good. For a novice I would say to avoid sports bikes such as a ZX6R.
You can always upgrade in a year. The upgrade might cost you a bit of money, but probably less than replacing one fairing panel on a ZX6R after dropping it in a car park.
All the best

hello and welcome to our friendly little community
as for what bike to get - you have to get a ninja, in green, and for the tart factor because they look so good but im not sure how practical a zx6r would be for a novice??
but they're very comfortable for pillion passengers too which will probably come in handy ____________________ "One moment can change a day, one day can change a life and one life can change the world." Siddhartha Gautama |

i've never had any problems with my ninja6 altho they are very powerful the power is managable and there a docile little thing at low speed
very easy to ride in town etc.....but twist that throttle and there put a huge grin on your face....more so than the bandit, there good bikes and all, i just think there very limited, there good all rounders but there no wow factor to them, you may find yourself getting bored.
Also judging by the above posts my two wheeled booger makes me a lady magnet (put that in ya pipe and smoke it mr harley ) Feel free to start swooning ladies ____________________ Bikes owned :- 2001 nsr125, 1999 zx6r, 2006 yzf-r1, 2009 xmax 250, 2012 yzf-r1, 2015 MT-07

ZX6R is a very sexy bike, I wouldn't mind one myself.
I prefer the Blue, like McJam's bike, just suits it more IMHO. |

Blue is indeed much better than green.
They're actually faster as blue is closer than green to Red Shift which is very fast. |

Cor! thnxs for all the replies. If I do go for the ninja, I reckon it'd have to be in the 'puke green' colour option
The only other thing which is bugging me a bit is the cost of insuring the thing. For the the Bandit last year I got a qoute of about £400 ish TPFT. Although as I'm 23 and got 5 years NCD on car insruance I would'nt thought it'd be too much. Poxy insurance eh! |
