How? My gear lever is pretty loose. It feels as though it has a fair bit of play, especially around the gear linkage, although the whole thing moves if i try. I imagine the nuts either end of the linkage arm can turn and adjust it? Is this correct?

The nuts adjust the length of the linkage and thus the angle of the gear lever.

Never heard of adjusting the 'play' on a gear lever.

Only one thing I can think of. The gearbox output shaft is splined and the the bit that fits over it has corresponding grooves. If the grooves have worn down then you will get a sloppy linkage. Slide it off and have a look at the inside.

Mine broke the other week, the bolt that goes through the foot peg and gear selector had come loose because the weld had broken. it resulted in me having to lift my foot completly off the footrest to change up.

wobble it about a bit and see if anything has come undone or snapped. otherwise its possible to adjust the position of the gear selector but thats about it. Most of the play is proabably in the gear box :/
