Hi guys

I bought myself a '95 vfr750 a couple of months ago, all fine, then the all of a sudden the battery isn't being charged. It's done 50k, 1k of which is me. Must be the reg/rec i think, so i bought a new one, but a cheapo universal one and it still didn't work.

Thinking that this was my mistake I bought another one from Electrex, and from what i can tell from the voltmeter, it is functional. However, the battery it still wont read over 12v on idle or under revs, indicating that it isn't being charged. from what i understand when the bike is running it should be charging the battery and i should be looking at seeing 13.7-14.4v over the terminals. but it's still reading low, 11v ish idle and then 10 and dropping with lights etc running, until there's nothing left and it wont run.

where do i go from here? the r/r is new and working, and given that the symptoms suggest that it wasn't overcharging I'm assuming the battery is ok. It is a relatively new battery too.

I'd like to check as much as possible before i spend more money, but I'm running out of knowledge and ideas. Pointers and extra info are welcome.

Measure the AC stator output. There are 3 wires (I'm assuming). Each one should have a reading of over 50VAC and all 3 readings should be similar.

Go here and under the "Technical Questions" do a search for charging, stator and reg/rec and see what crops up.
Otherwise join the forum and post your question there.
A good crowd with plenty of knowhow about the vfr's
