Hi ,

Little surprise when I was about to ride my sv650. I checked the tyre pressure and it was 4.5 psi as opposed to 36psi so pushed in the tyre and it was deflated . did also try my air gauge on my car and all seems accurate so definitely the tyre is the issue.

Now , I had a nail going through the tyre few weeks back and was fixed by taking it to a car tyre shop. When I put it back in I monitored it for over 3 weeks and it did not loose any air but then I had the bike in the garage for the past 2 weeks without riding it .

Then when about to use it, confronted with the surprise of 4.5 psi.

I think it maybe due to cold that it has lost air but almost 32 psi in two weeks is a lot.
Or maybe when the guy repaired the puncture, he did use the same valve and it is leaking

Or least likely I have damaged the rim and air is escaping,

My question is, would the first scenario of loosing 32 psi in 2 weeks or little longer sounds right if it was in a locked garage which is relatively cold ?

you my friend have a puncture or its leaking from the bead

reinflate tyre, throw water on where the repair was - bubbles?

also check the valve

2 weeks is way to short a time to lose 30 odd psi due to cold

It could be a slight roughness in the tyre seating allowing air out there - it doesn't mean they damaged it - you do get a degree of corrosion and dusty grit floating about as wheels get older and sometimes it just doesn't seat perfectly straight away when refitted.

I would try re-inflating and it would be good to take it for a good run so the tyre gets warm which will help it seal.
Or maybe you unluckily got another smaller puncture already, or there were two picked up originally but the smaller one was overlooked?
This can easily happen.

Be a puncture or leaking air somewhere.

It's the air trying to escape from being trapped inside an SV650.

Or a puncture.

Hi

32psi is a fair bit of air to lose and I wouldn't expect it to lose that much from anything minor. Look for another puncture, failed repair on the one you have had done, faulty valve core or a split valve.

All the best

Keith

oh man after a further look found out there is a nail stuck in it hence punctured.

I did fix one puncture just 2-3 month a go and here is another one . they tyre has around 4-5 mm of tread depth thus it is not slick or gone.

I think it is because of my area, there is a road which there is a white box in middle and i tend to ride in there between the traffic . it is quite a long straight of 3-4 miles and think in the middle is where all nail and sh*t is gathered thus puncturing it

so anyway going to repair it again, is it safe to have to punctures on high speed as I am planning to do some track days on this. I take it to a tyre shop whom fixes it using rubber and proper sealent from inside

thanks

Shouldn't be an issue if plugged properly, topped out various bikes with plugged tyres.

Also topped out my CBR with tyre repair foam in the tyre which is slightly more questionable Laughing

The tyre foam or the plug? A propper plug is seen as a permanent fix, though I think the rule is one per tyre.

Foam should be a get-me-home at most, and ideally a get-me-to-the-nearest-garage. Didn't stop me doing a few thousand miles with it in though.

just to update, this morning found out I am running on flat tyre again. when looked at the tyre there was another screw in it. this is the 3rd time in row in the past few month

1 in June , 1 last week and 1 this week. I don't know if I am not lucky or is it due to places I ride arpund.

I do normally go one the white lines which is between two single line carrige ways or between two streets and pull in before the traffic light . I thought the road cleaner leave all dusts nails etc near to the kerb which the traffic light is mounted on but apparently I am wrong as I still get my tyre punctured

the tyre shop told me that the last two punctures are in very close proximity of each other and should replace the tyre. He used a bigger patch to cover the already patched puncture( back in june) and the new puncture . he said it should be change

So now, if that is the case, which is a real shame as the thread is around 6mm then what brands are good and quality brands on bike ?

I know Avon

Personal preference at the end of the day. I've never tried an Avon I like.

If I was in your shoes on that bike I'd probably go for Pilot Road 2's. (Michelins.)

Hi

Riding in the hatched areas can give a far bigger chance of a puncture. After all, not many cars driving through it to pick the nails up in their tyres.

But the number you are getting is a bit beyond a joke.

All the best

Could have spend that on something useful
