So....

About a month ago, me and a few mates decided to take a trip to Wales. We left Wednesday and intended on staying until Friday... More on that later.

Proposed route.

Nice and early meet at Milton Tescos!

We stayed in a campsite just outside Trecastle on the A40, was a biatch to find as nothing is sign posted and the twatnav couldnt pick it up. Was a VERY remote site. Was also hammering down with rain when we arrived in Wales so i was properly miserable when we had to spend an hour looking for the camp site. Eventually found it two miles away from any form of civilisation.

Home for a couple of days.

Weather stayed miserable all through last night so we just went to forage for dinner in a local town, then back to the site, had a bonfire then bed.

Worst nights sleep ever, forgot my roll mat and pillow. The tent held up well enough though, didnt leak at all even though the rain continued to hammer down all night.

Next morning, we decided to have a quick shower then make a bee line for the A4069 (Black Mountain Pass), supposedly one of the best biking roads in Wales. It was very scenic and technical but would probably be better suited to a 125 as a lot of the corners were very tight and there wasnt much room to open the bike up.

We got about two thirds of the way down the road, just cresting the top of the mountain, then this happened....

Sounded like he locked up the brakes and let off too late to turn into the corner. Wasnt going any faster than 30mph. Was weird watching a crash unfold infront of your eyes.

The post was smashed by his collar bone and he missed the rock field by inches, just sore and bruised.

Bike will most likely be a right off. Front end totalled, subframe is twisted, footpegs bent, tank bent, fairings all smashed, handlebars bent and loads of other bits that i cant remember.

After we had got him sorted and off to hospital we lost interest in the trip unfortunately so decided to call it a day and came home. Was still worth it though and when we got back to the M6 the bloody sun came out and it ended up being a fantastic day weather wise, sods law.

Few random pics.

Definitely be going back to explore next year some time, when the weather is a bit better.

More pics to add later.

I grew up a few miles away from Ely *High-six*

I used to think the roads were rubbish around there, but went back to visit my parents and didn't realise how good they actually were compared to central London where I live now.

Its a shitter that the bike was so smashed up. Sad

Dat target fixation!

"Lovely road but I wouldn't want to run wide and crash into that field full of ro..... FUUUUUUUUUU!!!".

Or maybe he was thinking "I really wish I'd gone for the ER6N."

Glad your mate could walk away, oh so many stories like this end up with a darker outcome.

Anyway, back to next Welsh trip.

Try the route of where you are, up to cannock, then down via shrewsbury, welshpool and newtown, through Aberystwyth, via aberporth, cardigan, fishguard, st davids, to haverfordwest, pembroke, tenby, laugharn, carmarthern, then back along the old A40 past brecon.

A good few days riding with some great roads and spectacular countryside, Seaside vistas, dolphins, ancient monuments, the works.

Plus some lovely campsites along the way too

Pop in to see me if you do, I'm in Aberporth (hence the reference Smile)

Mike
