Hey, just looking at another post and it got me thinking. From what I read, you should get your engine rebuilt every 10,000(ish) miles right? But what does an engine rebuild involve exactly?

And also, how much does it cost to get it done roughly for a 125?

My word you ask a lot of questions. Its all in the search function up the top of the page somewhere.

A rebuild consists of stripping down the top end of the engine - thats head, barrel, and piston. You have a look, or a measure if you feel special, and replace the bits that need replacing. Generally if you catch it before it seizes you fit a new piston and rings and don't do anything to the barrel.

Wouldn't it be easier to find a page that tells you all you need to know about the basics of motorbikes and what they can do/how you do it/what you need to know?

I'm sure their's something in the links page, if not I'll dig for one and put it in there later.

https://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?page=motorcyclenews.articles.articleCategory.listAll&articleCategory=MCN-EXTRA_ADVICE-AND-TIPS

This would be a good site for you. If your actually meaning to get a bike and aren't just on here because you've got nothing else to do then read up as much as you can. Not just individual things that interest you but everything.

In fact, looking through the page their's some valuable information that I'm sure even experienced bikers wouldn't mind looking at.
I know their's a link to MCN already but this is a bit more specific and would help lazy people who don't know/can't be arsed looking for it.

Yup the old engine rebuild at 10,000 miles generaly applies to two stroke motors, some do less, some more but they all need rebuilding after a short period compared to a 4 stroke. I am currently in the process of rebuilding mine, might get round to finishing it next week. It isn't all that dificult on a 125 two stroke, no valves or cams etc to worry about Smile

Enrique, you shouldn't get upset when people point out things to you. You asked for some advice, but there are sections within other websites and proably on this forum where it is readily available.

Why whinge when someone points out that you were incorrect about something, i.e. the Stupidity/Sarcasm comment.

If you're going to try and give a witty or sharp comment, you'll need to be sharper than that! Smile

Upset? How am I getting upset? I asked for advice on what engine rebuilding is, not some smart-ass trying to be funny. I just don't get it, when you ask a question, you can either A) choose to ignore it, or B) reply if you know the answer. personally, I don't read someone's post and think 'Yeah, I'll take the piss. It'll give me a laugh'. But that's the mentality of some people for you.

...Yeah, I'll take the piss....

If you thought I was taking the piss then you'd be wrong. You said rebuild an engine (any engine) every 10K miles. This is wrong.

If you'd said "how often should I need to rebuild a 2-stroke engine" then perhaps you'd get more acurate advice.

If you keep slagging off people who try to help then a) you'll not be popular b) you will not get any help and c) you're letting everyone know how stupid you are.

Hope this helps clarify Smile

Yeah, because I'm slagging off people aren't I(?) I haven't called one person any names and don't intend to as I'm not a child. I mean, your the ones subliminally refereing to me as thick etc. Also, if I don't put 'Engine Rebuilding for a 2-Stroke' that means everyone can have a pop and take the piss?

So what does everyone have against enrique86? Yes he might well be asking a lot of questions, but most people are not born knowing what an engine rebuild is Laughing . Fair enough this could/ should be in the workshop section, but there is nothing that wrong with it being here.

Give him a chance, there are people moaning that there are not enough bike related topics and this is definatly a bike related topic and people moan about it as they don't think that someone should be needing to ask about engine rebuilding.

Thumbs Down

You want advice? Do what I originally said which was the best advice someone could give you. Go and find a page that will tell you all you need to know about the basics of motorcycles.

I did say look in the links page and if you couldn't find one their I'd put one in there for you. Which in a later post I did. You then come back with a laughable reply which I post a tongue in cheek reply for.
What exactly do you expect? I'm not having a dig at you, just saying use a bit of common.

Might i hazard a suggestion;

https://www.125ccsportsbikes.com/forums/index.php?act=idx for all your naff unreliable two stroke questions plus at least 100 topics of 'wot is fastest Rs 125 or mito innit bruv' type thing. Besides enrique86, surely your not even old enough to ride a 125 yet?

-btw to extrapilate my claim that two strokes are both naff and unreliable, i KNOW two strokes have a jaw dropping power to weight ratio, and are fab for cornering cos they are so light and flickable. but frankly who gives a stuff if every 10,000 miles you have to rebuild. I can do that in what... 3 months. Plus what usually tends to occur is people think blow that, its fine... it eventually explodes and they either fly off the bike in the resulting 90 odd mph rear lock up... or simply have to wait a fair few months for a new barrel to be shipped over by the lazy italians.

Not to mention they sound like a piss in a can, and spew barely burnt oil al over the back tyre, plate, brake and swinger.

But hell i wouldnt mind a Rs 250 to rag about abit at some point.
