Just been out for a walk with the dog along the sea front, it's quite dark but not pitch black. Im walking along the sea wall path, to my right is a wall with a drop of about 10 feet the other side of it into the sea, to my left is a concrete sea defence about 15 feet high and curved to form a wave shape.
About 10 metres infront of me I could see the shape of a person walking towards me, as soon as I saw this the dog shot to my side and walked to heel (he never does this).
I decided to put him on his lead incase he bothered the person walking towards me, as i bent down to put his lead on I could hear the footsteps of the person ahead, then as i stood back up they stopped.
I expected to see the person within a few steps of me but when I looked up there was nothing. Zip. The person had gone!! To make things worse the dog refused to walk any further and insisted going back the other way.

Fucking odd!!

Cool story bro and all that.

It was Blind Pugh come to give you the black spot. Check all your pockets, and see if there's a mysterious shadow on your hand.

Maybe it was ghost of Kim Jong-Il, would certainly explain the dog's reaction.

Maybe whoever it was got so scared of your dog that they just launched themselves into the sea.

Just maybe.

Were you tired? I've 'seen' all kinds of odd things when I've been tired... doesn't explain the dogs behavior mind... Shocked

Yes but you're a woman and therefore completely irrational.

My ex woke up in a foul mood once because she dreamt I'd used her favourite top as a rag.

We can call it a ghost, but then you've got to define what a ghost is, so it's not really an answer Wink

Did you feel concerned or unnerved at any point? Like a sense something was wrong?

I had the "I dreamt you cheated on me with my friend" and she was miserable all day and kept asking me why I did it

Hehehe, I once woke up annoyed with my sister cos I dreamt she had bought a baby giraffe, I sledged in the snow all the way down a massive hill to go see it (it was behind a fence at the bottom of the hill), and when I patted it on the head, it bit me. I was only annoyed for about 10 seconds though, until I really woke up and realised it was a dream.

Nah the things I have seen aren't in the 'irrational' category.... more so the 'hallucinating' category. I was once driving home from a long shift in a bar very late at night and I saw a man at the side of the road bent over tying his shoe laces. Turns out it was just a couple of those black posts with the reflective white/red bit on top, one was slightly knocked over... and my brain had transformed that into what I have just described Confused

The brain is very good at turning what the eyes see into patterns that we recognise; figures and faces in particular. This is because we have historically needed to recognise human from animal and our own tribe from others. This is why we see a face in the moon or Jesus on our toast etc.

What the brain doesn't do, though, is imagine approaching footsteps.

Or the strange behavior of ones dog.... My sister has similar stories about her dog in a house she used to live in. The kids wouldn't even go the toilet alone at night they were that freaked out by it. *Cue twilight zone music*

There's also the issue of infrasound which causes great fear in a lot of people and if it's powerful enough it's suggested it can blur peripheral vision slightly. It's often caused by fans, but no doubt it can be caused by the wind too. There are lots of unlikely causes for footstep sounds, like two coconuts on string tapping together in the wind. Some might say that's unlikely, but it's more likely than a class of humans who are invisible and randomly appear and disappear completely in confradiction with the laws of physics. I'm not saying the latter is totally impossible, it's just less likely than coconuts. Footsteps inside is often caused by the floorboards expanding or contracting in response to temperature changes.

In a similar way that dogs are sensitive to thunder storms and such.

Indeed. I'm sure there's a perfectly rational explanation. But when several factors come together like this it becomes more difficult to rationalise. Fisty will unlikely ever know the rational explanation though.

Best theory I've heard so far is the Smiler one.

My wife dreamt I was abusive, then awoke and punched me in the eye.

Apparently it almost made up for the "dream fight" headlock I put her in.
