gonna get one of these for the winter months of steamy visors. which colour is best during the winter months? the clear or the slightly tinted ones for the low sun in the mornings?

any advice would be appreciated

I would just use the clear. We'll all be riding mostly in the dark in a few weeks. Put a pair of shades on (if your lid doesn't have one) for the couple of weeks we have to deal with the low sun. Make sure you buy the correct pinlock for your helmet's visor. If your visor isn't "pinlock ready", it's going to be difficult (not impossible) to install one, so check first if you can buy a pinlock one for your helmet.

Apparently they degrade with time, you might get a year out of it before it doesn't react to the sun very effectively (from what I've read on the interwebs).
Might have improved since then, was a while ago I looked at them.

I tried that one. Didn't work at all for me. The visor on the Shoei 1100 I use filters out UV rays. Guess what triggers the tint? If I took the visor off the lid and turned it around, the pinlock tinted up quite nicely. Not exactly useful.

I've been using one of these for the last 6 months, can't recommend it unfortunately. Never gets dark enough to be truly useful, and it has become less effective with time. I'm sticking with standard pinlock from now on, with a tinted visor for summer.

ok it can be a bit chilly at times. Rather see and have a cold face for a short time.
I have done this for years. Lads in traffic department do it on their lids.
seen guys with a smaller strip along top as well.
makes visor gap too small sor.my liking tho.

I've found these great things for winter sun. They're called Sunglasses where I come from. Razz

I haven't used sunglasses since I got my motorbike bunnet with the Integral Sun visor what slides up-down as and when. (I've been able to use it twice this year Smile)

I have the Schuberth C3. It has a pinlock on the main visor but the sun visor is only a visor. It never fogs (just someone keeps touching it with their bloody fingers and leaves marks).
The main visor is fooked and really needs to be replaced but I don't want to fork out the 70 quid for it. Sad Unless someone knows a place who sells these bits of fecking pesrpecks cheap.

I can fog the pinlock but usually in those Extreme misery days when everything is wet. There must always be a limit to all things.

I have yet to find a helmet which the visor can be 'cracked' open just enough to vent the condensation but prevent the draft blinding me. Sad
Intolerant and Fussy do not make for good biking. Smile
