From a 600cc to A 125cc just thinking the buzz of going super fast Is great but. I'm thinking of going to A125 cc motorcross styled bike which iIis cheaper to run. And slow me down a bit.

I've got a Fazer 600 but I'm keen to get my hands on a little classic 125 like a Suzuki GP or Kawasaki AR 125. I'm sure lots of people on BCF have half a dozen bikes.

125's are great, the Fazer is too big and heavy to use to just pop down to the shops and I can't easily get it through the back gate; it has to stay in the garage. Also, I miss being able to park up alongside learner riders or tagging along with them for a couple of miles. You do that on a 600cc bike and you look like either an instructor or a stalker.

I use both. 125cc if I want to get there cheap, 600cc if I want to get there fast.

Yup, had an R1, CBR600RR and now a TL1000S.

I still use the Varadero 125 for anything other than a high speed ride out.

I *really* wish 250 was the learner class though. They've made it really expensive to get a full license. Biker caf car parks are like Conservative party conferences - average age of 60, where thirty years ago it would've been 20-something.

If the main reason is to slow you down it doesn't work. You end up ragging the arse off it everywhere and get frustrated when you realise it is just plain boring.
If its for cheapness and speed isn't an issue then fine, get a 125 scooter, just as boring but more practical for riding round slowly on.
I'd have a go on one before you get rid of the 600.

Fairly right, if I have a capable bike I sit at 100-120 on the motorway. The 125 keeps me at the legal speeds.

In towns and stuff, you do tend to rev it more to get around, I tend to stick to lower limits more on the bigger cc's Laughing

Jumping between the two - it really does highlight just how little of the engine's power / revs I use on the Triumph and how much I use its flexibility instead.

For 95%+ of the time I'm out 1000+ CC is a total waste of time.

Next bike will probably still be a 1300 though Laughing

I'm currently scouring eBay and Gumtree for a cheap little heap for winter lulz. There's not much out there in small capacity though, other than two hojillion quads, the usual obviously stolen / shagged out offroaders, or laughably overpriced 125s. One joker is asking £725 for a 7 year old HN125-8 that costs £729 brand new. Doh!

I shouldn't have sold the GPz305, really.

Actually... I shouldn't have sold the HN. Mad

Since I passed the test years ago I've never looked back.

I don't think I'll ever buy a 125cc bike.

I helped my riding school move premmises by riding some of their 125's from one location to the other, skidded 2/3 125's I rode by braking too hard.

Compared to the ZZR they're much much lighter!

I've said it before, if Honda did a 250 varadero, I'd be first in line to buy it.

Spent yesterday morning on the other half's YBR. to echo what's already been said, fun in its own little way but I couldn't do it every day. Or even more than once in a while.

Do you ride through winter though? Like, nearly every day, sun, sleet or snow?

Some days, I just want something that's easy to hold or pick up.

yeah I did... had a YZF R6 at the time and bought a DT125R for whizzing around ... de restricted it with a different expansion front pipe already had the servo fitted so off I went and got my self into more pickles than on the R6 ... it didn`t slow me down just frustrated me and encouraged more reckless maneuvers too slow when ridden back to back with the bigger bike ... even the DRZ400 went for the same reason...
happier with the ZZR14.

I don't ride in winter.

I don't even ride in bad weather. Sometimes I get caught in the rain though Wink

Nothing wrong in having a smaller bike to whizz about on and keep the bigger bike for better days.
Been doing that for years.

some people have very tiny willies and have to compensate by only riding a big bikes and telling everyone how they only ride big bikes Rolling Eyes cos they are big and manly?

I/we can have a lot of enjoyment out of the smaller bikes........ especially if it`s a two-smoke Wink .

The main things I find different are the lack of weight and the chuckability of the thing. That's me going from the Sprint to the YBR; I dare say with you having a Daytona you don't find the chuckability so different Laughing

The 600 through summer is ace. And I sit at 95mph on the motorway as that keeps up with the traffic flow. It's just winter. Considered buying a car but that means selling the bike.

Ohh yeah it was great on a 125. Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Going a maximum of 62mph flat out. Rolling Eyes

It was so fun going up hills, being pushed towards the kerb side as I was being overtaken by lorries. Rolling Eyes (I am surrounded by very steep hills, there is a ski slope near where I live).

Having no tripometer was also great. Rolling Eyes

What I really loved was having to turn a little tap, to turn the fuel on and off or for reserve and remembering to do so. Rolling Eyes

What also was amazing was the absolute lack of a fuel gauge, not even a warning light. Rolling Eyes

Nowadays there is no point at all in having a 125. I learned on one, passed my test and then immediately bought a 500. I had the 125 less than 3 months.

Now with the license changes, there is zero point, if you pass your test on a 125, you stay on a 125.

Tbh there's not much point doing your license before your 24 these days.

Please please, do not reminisce about 125s, I had one and they are shxt. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Actually, you can chuck them about with ease but the problem is that the steering is so light and quick. It's even worse with a pillion, no weight over the bars and the front end just flaps about. I found myself having to seriously recalibrate how much steering effort I put in. Cool

I never had a crap 125 as it was 2 stroke Wub But a 250 would be the minimum for me. Don't need to get a 125 to slow you down, just get a boring commuter type bike. Usually people suggest supermotos to try and calm themselves down but that's just denial.
