Been to look at this R1 this morning but aint to sure on a value.....It rides fantastic, engine sounds lovely, done 21,000 miles, and just feels right. The guy bought it from a dealers 12 months ago and paid £4000 for it, he now wants considerably less. Only thing is the non standard paint job, although tidy puts me off a little. Its hpi clear.

The paint job was on the bike when he got it but i agree there must be a reason its been changed. The price is £2100 which is a fair price i think.

Do people really care whether a bike has been down the road or not previously in its past? I personally don't see the issue providing that it has been repaired properly. It's easy to slide a bike down the road.

Regarding the paint job, if you can afford to spend £4000 on a bike, you can afford to spend £200-300 on a paint job if you don't love the scheme it came in.

£2100 seems a good price and I think it's a lot of bike for that money. However, what worries me is why he's selling it at £2100 after buying it for £4000 only 12 months previously. I would have thought that he could get £2500-2600 with no real troubles. Regardless, if you've ridden it and it rides nicely, I would go for it.

Chain adjusters look extended.

Worn paint on right of seat unit.Thin paint or crash damage?

Brake pads?
Sprockets? (anyone can put a Renthal sticker on a bike)
Service history?
Tool kit?
Manual?
Alarm?

He's got the hpi report which is all clear, the chain and sprockets are about 3 months old and are renthal, doesn't have the original bits as that's how he bought it. Never asked about toolkit or manual, its alarmed. Think I'll be picking it up Saturday morning.

You know what they say, if it sounds too good to be true..........

Nobody would buy a second hand bike for £4000 then sell it 12 months later for half what he paid.

Imho hes either bullshitting about what he paid (ask to see the receipt) or hes bullshitting about it not having been totalled. Just because a bike is hpi clear doesnt mean it hasnt been smashed to smitherines under tpft cover and the owner then repaired on the cheap to get it sold on.

If it was any good he wouldnt be selling it for a lot less than its worth. Avoid.

£4k > £2.1k = lol wtf

With that much of a price drop it must have been raped in ways that you'll only get to understand if you buy it.

if you have not bought it yet and are not going to buy it can i please have his contact number so i can go and view and probably buy it would be much appreciated!

as for £4k if he did then he got conned!
only way i can see it costing £4k is if he got it on finance, dealer warranty, plus a trade in for his old bike.

£4k straight for that model R1 is rediculious but i have seen them in some dealers at that price but they are mint and original with less that 7k miles

I paid £2100 for my 2001 R1 with 26k on it. That was alright, nothing inherently wrong with it, just had a weird respray.

That is cheap.. very cheap so would expect something to be lunched beneath the tidy outside.

only thing that would worry me on that R1 are the following:

- Stolen
- Engine screwed due to abuse
- Gearbox on its way out, Simple fix (if you know what your doing) as ive watched videos of it being repaired and i know a mechanic who can do it with no problems and wont charge me a fortune
- Cracked frame!

thats it really anything else i can deal with myself if the clutch is on its way out i can change it myself
