I fancy going elsewhere next May, I'd like to bugger off to a cold country (no, I won't stay in England har har ) so was looking at Norway/Sweden.
Anyone ever been to these places? It is only for about 4 days worth of riding, nothing overly ambitious, just on my little 125 and 500 miles of road riding or so. |

The hairy bikers did a trip down from Norway and it looked amazing accross the many raised roadways.
Think it was this:

paddy mate, keep us updated, as I NEED an adventure
I am toying with the idea of either Plymouth-Dakar, or the mongol rally (the wife's dead pleased ) so something a little less extreme and expensive may keep me in the good books...... lol

That bridge is beautiful
And although people say Scandinavia is expensive, I went to Iceland a couple of months a go, and the prices where the same, if not a tiny bit cheaper than the UK |

I'd read that the prices in Iceland had crashed since the banking crisis. I went to Sweden a couple of years ago and the prices were horrendous
Spain in May would be perfect - cheap prices, light evenings and not too hot. |

I was under the impression that the banking crash would have raised the prices |

My plan was to take the ferry from Felixstowe to Esbjerg in Denmark and ride from there to the north and ferry from Hirtshals to Larvik.
This cuts down on my riding time and gets me to where I wanna be far quicker.
The reason for the 125, ice, snow, wet. I'd rather deck a bike that costs fuck all I'd only fancy staying there for 3 days, the other riding would be done in Denmark, riding back would be through Sweden and Copenhagen towards the ferry back to Felixstowe.
Reason for a short one, I am going on another holiday that year and don't fancy using all my holiday in 1 go |

Sounds pretty cool mate I might have to look into getting a different bike for it though, too much plastic on the GPshed
Edit: that is if you were looking for others to tag along of course..... ____________________ Past - 1988 honda revere 600, 1996 kawasaki gpz500s, 1999 Yamaha R6

If others fancied, I'm happy being a lone ranger but I'll likely book some places to sleep as I don't think this is a camping focused country. |

I went to Sweden a few years back and it was the equivalent of a tenner for a pint and a sandwich, in Denmark what we call a "99" is was about kr.280 which is knocking on for £2.50 The further towards Russia you go (As West to East it's Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) the more expensive it gets. Finland is pathetically expensive. |

It's probably not relevant to this because of it's location. But my parents went to Slovinia, did the usual thing of taking '000's of holiday snaps that I would have to endure.
The things we have to do to secure our inheritances
But fuck me, what a stunning country. Breathtaking. Definitely going.

Paddy,
I have toured all the Scandanavian counttires and they are geared up for camping, thier campsites are beautifully clean with full facilities as the Scandanavians are outdoor people.7
Denmark although beautifully clean with perfect roads is a little dull,
If you want scenery head to Norway.
As for costs, yes all are very expensive,i kept costs down wild camping and eating and shopping where the locals do i.e. Netto supermarkets,
Do not get in a taxi you will shit yourself at the prices, beer is expensive but if you want a few beers buy it in the local supermarket,
Word of warning -- all Scandanavian countries take drink driving extremely seriously , i got off the ferry in Turku (Finland) a couple of years ago and the police were breathylising every single car/motorcycle and lorry driver without exception.
People all speak fantastic English and are very friendly,
I went to have a look at the " |

Try to find a cheap copy of John Douglas's book "Norways artic Highway" https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/1873756739
Though cheap copies can be rare. I mapped out the various routes onto a Garmin Mapsource file.
I have a great waterproof motorcycle Norway map set of separate laminated maps that I picked online for a Norwegian bookseller cappelendamm
Title: MC-kart Norge ISBN: 9788202297428 https://www.cappelendamm.no/main/katalog.aspx?f=8813&isbn=9788202297428
As previously stated Scandanavia is eye watering expensive, not only will you have to treble the cash you think you'll need, but also double the time required. Just getting up to Nordcapp is around 1750 miles one way.
The DFDS cargo ferry from immingham does accept motorcycles, the facilities are limited, and you may have to share a cabin with a smelly trucker, but there is a 99% chance you'll get bumped off the ferry at the last minute in favour of a freight driver, throwing your finely timed plans into chaos & forcing you to make a late dash via harwich, holland, & danmark ____________________ I accept no responsibility for swearing, drinking, motorcycle riding or your pregnant teenage daughter. |
