So I've got my test in two weeks and I just rung my insurance broker (Rampdale) who I have a YBR 125 insured with. They told me that ONE of their companies would insure be on ANY bike over a 125 unless I was 21 (with 3 years no claims).

I'm pretty sure this is wrong as I'm pretty sure they're also with Aviva who my house mate has a SV650S with (he's the same age as me - 19).

My current insurance is KGM Motor Insurance. Does anyone know whether this is actually right? I tried ringing them again hoping to get a different person, only to get the same guy.

I have 6 months insurance left on my YBR so would be pretty annoyed to lose that.

What I think the guy did was not take into account that I told him I'd have a full license when I want the policy taken out? Does this sound possible?

Thanks for the help.

Sorry, it's a common problem.

Some underwriters (no idea of the list) only deal with peds and 125 bikes. They simply won't let you change the insurance to anything bigger, no matter how old or experienced you are, so your only option is to cancel. Then the broker adds on a cancellation fee...

You're really at the mercy of your broker and the underwriter, there's no magic fix.

I've read that others have had SV650 insurance with KGM. Does it go by broker then? Will KGM not insure me through Rampdale but will through another?

Bear in mind that both brokers and underwriters change their minds more often than their underwear.

You were right to call back, and even if it was the same phone monkey you might have got a different story out of him. Wink
