Evening all Smile

I've just done a cam change on a honda dominator. The original cam and followers were beyond toast but had good, used spares off another bike.

Whilst stripping the engine, I noticed that the cam sprocket was a couple of teeth out. It was running fine prior to this apart from a nasty, intermitent ticking.

Now it's all back together with the cam timed correctly but it won't rev above 3k. As it approaches 3k revs, it starts to stutter as if the coil is breaking down.

Could it be that the carb has been set up to run with the dodgy valve timing?

Will throw a new spark plug at it in the morning and check the coil connections but would welcome any sensible suggestions from you good people Smile

Are you 100% sure that the timing is correct?

If it was a couple of teeth out previously it would have run like a sack of shit, I suspect you have made some sort of error, perhaps not allowed for the guide block (Pushes on the chain when the valve cover is fitted and takes up chain slack between the cams) in the rocker cover maybe if it has one? got confused about the drive/slack side of the chain? I would revisit your work I think and recheck everything.

I have just played about with the cam timing and now the bike runs like the cam is wrongly timed, do you think it could be down to tyre pressure?

Embarassed Embarassed

Thanks for pointing out the error of my ways. There are two timing marks on this model and neither are marked so guess who used the wrong one?

As I appear to have relegated myself to jivebunny status, I will now rant on about how I'm a fixing god whilst offering 5 ponds to whoever can travel the furthest to help before I flounce out of here calling you all losers Smile

But then I'll be back as if nothing happened

Thanks guys
