how long the plugs last depends alot on the bike, mine demands new plugs every few months, and i dont cover many miles.
I would sya however that 1000 miles out of a plug is very low, check the mixture by looking at the colour of the plug. sounds like its allway running rich thus fouling the plug constantly.

With me (similar bike) 1000 miles out of a plug is about my average. I have been told when small two strokes get old is best to run the oil settings a little rich, expecially as they are constantly getting thrashed. If it runs well, and doesn't oil up around normal town use then I would say its fine. Thumbs Up As its only 1 plug to change every 1000 miles, at a cost of two pound a plug its not too bad, and Iv'e read that Maurices old bike (similar to ours again) also used to eat plugs.

Cheers, Jonathan

I found the hard way to always carry a sparkplug socket and a spare sparkplug on two stroke bikes, when doing up plugs I dont use the wrech, I do them hand tight then put the socket over, and using my grippy gloves give it a damn good tug. Then if one dies on a journey, I can easily change it Very Happy . I also carry a swiss army knife stype thing, and a 13 and 10ml spanner which all fits into my bike jacket. And a mobile phone Thumbs Up . I wouldn't feel happy on the road without them.

Cheers, Jonathan
