And he needs a mate.

You should never keep Lovebirds as singles, they get lonely and fretful and if you keep a pair and one dies, the other won't be far behind it, unless you get it a new mate quickly.

We asked many people this, and it is a common misconception. Providing we give him lots of attention everyday he will be fine.

There are also stories of mates that one day kicked off with each other and they had a fight to the death, they peck each others eyes out too.

I'll be his best mate, unless he chooses the missus.

Paddy, we were looking at Conures first but they're super expensive (I'm not bothered about the price though and not Macaw expensive) but they shriek at the slightest disturbance when they're on their own and next door has just had a baby so I'd feel bad. If we got a Conure first and they baby second I wouldn't feel guilty.

I'm not saying lovebirds are the most quiet, he's got some lungs on him for a 10 week old midget.

It wasn't a common misconception when I kept Peach Faced Lovebirds for three years, I actually saw them pine to death.

Some social birds will choose to interact with you more than a typical cat.

Corvids and parrots - and dealing with eBay and Gumtree sellers - do make me wonder why we assign "human" rights based on genetics rather than ability. Lol u know wut i meen m8

Is that if you take it away from it's mate that it's bonded with? This bird hadn't had chance to bond yet but I'll keep my eye on him Smile

C_dug - you can teach these animals loads of things and they can love affection, they can sit with you, you can stroke them and play with them. Same as any other pet I suppose. You can teach them tricks and they can attempt at mimicking your voice.

Paddy - Do it Smile Get a bird bigger than the cat Razz that'll teach it.

Roger - while we've been looking I've seen the ads for "Ime a breedr arnt a?" and they simply don't deserve my money for anything they're selling. Went to a reputable pet shop in the end who have their own breeders they use over and over.

Never understood the wish to keep a bird in a cage where it cannot fly.

Ha dude, the cage is massive, the bird is a pea in a cave. It can fly about but once we've tamed him he'll be out all the time, just in to sleep.
