Hey everyone, today I tried to wheelie for the first time. I have a zzr400 just so you know. Anyway, I was on first gear, the revs were at around 6000 pulled the clutch untill the revs were at 7500 let it out smoothly while giving it throttle, but the front tire didn't come up. Can anyone help me out? Thanks a lot Very Happy !

Smoothly? Dump it dear boy, lean back and pull on the bars. If you were already moving at 6000 rpm in first, then you might need to give it some more welly too... Very Happy*

*Don't take my word for it though, I've only done a wheelie from stationary by dumping the clutch. Yams and Smotobob are the people to ask.

Best advice I can give is to not try. I found that it was something that just comes in time. I tried for ages to wheelie my Yamaha SR125 when I first bought it and got nowhere, after some riding experience and a few mistakes at the lights I was able to do a basic wheelie easily.

Quick tips from me if you're really desperate to try would be (baring in mind I've only done it on a 4stroke 125):

Set off moving slowly (around walking speed), pull in the clutch and rev the engine pretty high, dump the clutch as fast as your confidence will allow. Do this over and over again untill your arms are aching from all the jerking around. Don't get over confident, if you think you're getting cocky then give up for the day.

Once home, you can then proceed to replace the chain sprockets, cush drive and other bits you've worn out, if you are lucky, the engine and gearbox MAY survive to your second session Wink

Good Luck

Don't look at the rev counter for starters... just play about by sound until it lifts, and forget looking a the rev counter, it's not neccessary and a distraction that will sometimes prevent you from wheeling at all Wink

Im not doing it again:
1. the chain and sprockets wont last
2. Nor will the gearbox
3. Nor will my headstock bearings
4. Theres no poiunt cos it looks crap and doesnt get you anywhere

Ill wait till ive got a bigger and better bike

Well I don't know how different the ZXR and ZZR are but all I have to do is just open the throttle and pull a little.

I never tried to wheely my ZXR, and I've never ridden a full power ZXR either.

My adivce...
Take all your farings off your bike (including the rear light system cos thats the first thing to hit the ground)
Get a full set of leathers and then clutch in, At least 10k rmp, Dump clutch, and it will eventually come to you...
If you feel your gona flip, dont stamp on the rear brake, Just pull in the clutch and maybe just touch the brake... Wink
But to be honnest, I wouldnt wheelie...
I wheelied my old speedfight 100 all the time and I eventually shattered me head bearings, Distroyed my front shock, went through a rear tyre a month, burnt the old clutch to a fart and I went through about 12 drive belts Crying or Very sad ...

Ben...

Well done youngun sounds very sensible.........if your bike was made to wheelie, why do you think they went to the expense of fitting a front wheel?
