So, just realised I have to pay £25 for the privilege of holding a photocard licence, to have the photo renewed. FFS.

Bonus points to anyone who can prove/disprove the whole 'by law, if you don't renew, we can fuck you with a sandpaper condom' line.

If you converted from a paper licence, shame on you. You'll have to pay £25 every 10 years for a stupid piece of card.

This is why people with paper licence don't bother.

I was following this well laid out plan but unfortunately when i passed my motorcycle test they insisted I had to have the new type of license when they added the entitlement....

Also had the rozzers charging me 60 quid and applying 3 stars to my license so i presume they would also have made me renew then.

The only way i can think of to avoid the charge every 10 years if you have the new license is to move house as then its free and you can get a new photo on it at the same time..

you only have to pay when you renew it if you change the photo. It still looks like me so I didn't.

My photo expired a couple of years ago when I wasn't looking - I needed my licence for work so whilst I was running around trying I get a new one pronto I spoke to the DVLA. The particular person I spoke to said that whilst the photo had expired and must be renewed, my licence to drive had not expired and I could continue driving. So I did.

If hush is cloud had a silver lining it was that I had renewed my passport within the previous five years, so they were able to use the photo they held on record for that, so I just had to do to bit of form filling and I had the new licence pretty quickly.

We had to renew our old N.I paper driving licences which had a black/white photo attached every ten years before the plastic card type were introduced in the 80s, we are now on our 3rd type of plastic licence which costs 30 pounds every ten years or in my case my licence must be renewed every 5 years due to being diabetic along with pricey eye tests, holding a paper licence in N.I is not an option meaning a driver/rider from GB needing to exchange their paper licence for an N.I licence if they come to live in N.I.

I'd rather have the photocard, I use it for ID and it's more portable than a passport as well as being cheaper to replace.
Unfortunately as it's been in my wallet for over five years, and therefore sat on repeatedly, my current card is in roughly a dozen pieces and held together by sellotape.

You realize the DVLA are the biggest cunts of them all when they seize the bike, and charge £100 a day storage...Then they don't pick up the fucking phone...Then you have to wait saturday and sunday becuase they're closed...Then on monday I owe them over £450! Utter fucking nobs.

On a side note, if the new AL Qaeda leader is a big bike fan and reading this..The DVLA are actually the masterminds for everything in the UK, ignore the new NCA (I've just popped up on their searches ) All about the DVLA.

I took a student ID card, which they wanted me to show them proof of my signature too. Guess who never signs his bank cards either?

Accepted it in the end though. Though I get the impression I may have been better resorting my exam at another time.
