a quick thing of my last 3 helmets.

i wear dual sports on account of my commute takes me almost imediatly face into the sun east and west 20 miles per way. a nightmare when the sun gets low. a sun visor can only go so far, a quick tilt of the head with a peak on helps far more than shades or a sun visor ever do.

i do find extended riding on a naked bike above 50 can make my neck ache more than my normal type helmets (vcan 210's). city rider though, so thats rarely an issue.

1. Duchinni D311

https://images.esellerpro.com/2189/I/479/19/Duchinni-D311-MX-Enduro-Motorcycle-Helmet-Black-1.jpg

Can be got for 100 quids. lasted a year, 17k mileage, daily drops n bumps a daily commuter puts it through. only reason it died was me leaving it on the floor where jack russels broke the visor and peak. doh!

it felt ok, average quality, scratched easily but was otherwise fine. the only fault i had with it was it was noisey. I am told all dual sports helmets are noisey (except shuberth?). noise levels were loud enough to make you absolutely need ear plugs at anything above 30. prolonged riding at 60mph on a naked bike was tiring with the level of wind noise it gave. not usually a bother for me as I commute through London but really felt it going to the big events this year in the South (Southend Shakedown, Margate Meltdown, Hastings 1066).

2. Wulfsport Prima 2012

https://www.keewaymotorcycles.com/image/cache/data/WULF/Wulfsport-2013-Prima-Speed-Dual-Sport-Helmet-Black-1-600x500.jpg

Almost exactly the same as the Duchinni, only difference was half the price and the strap (duchinni had d ring and, wulfsport had a clippy clip). I only had it a week while I was waiting for a cock up on the next helmet to resolve itself.

3. VCan V370

https://www.cyclenet-uk.com/images/VCAN_V370_Enduro.jpg

The VCan 370. Bit annoyed, I am usually a VCan fan boy. I have had a few VCans in the past and loved them, the v210s mostly, flip, bluetooth, they fit my head perfectly and usually last untill i drop them from height like a numpty and break the visors.

this one however. got it, it fits ok, feels alright for a 60 quid helmet, however, within 2 weeks of normal use the bolt holding the peak came out while riding up a motorway. it is un-usable without it. shoulder check at speed and tilt your head and you are blinded. going through the city on a cold morning and flip the visor up and down, peak drops and your blind. you get the idea. got a new one of the supplier and tightened it mega tight. been fine scince.

the noise is not too bad if you have the visor ever so slightly open. if you let it drop fully, you get an insanely loud whistling noise from under the helmet. its reeeeealy ear piercing. again, ear plugs are needed, but it is a lot more distracting than the duchinnis noise. on the upside it has a gap in the padding and chin bit you can slide one of them chin curtains into. this cures the whistling noise. ventallation is gash on this helmet so you may end up steamy faced with a chin curtain on.

cheers

Looks absolutely identical to me, I wonder why they have different straps. Thinking

Great reviews, thanks!

I would avoid any hat with the extended MX type chin, I have crashed wearing such a helmet and had my head snapped back when the chin hit the floor resulting in neck injuries.

Does the peak not at like a sail at any speed above about 50?

Riding for 3-4 hours at 60+ can leave me with an achey neck on my little naked 125.

I have always rode with motocross style hats, i like the more open eye/face hole. I agree about the sun and the peaks effectiveness.

I like the Wulfsport, I used it daily for 18 months but it looked old fast. the visor snapped after 9 months, i left it in my teachers office at school, i'm sure he broke it, and swapped to goggles. Goggles eliminate lots of the wind noise. I now ride with the Duchinni MX version of that hat but do prefer the wulf, it seems comfier.

I may have to try ear plugs as after long rides I can not hear a thing, after about 3 hours. I'm just worried that I won't be able to hear other vehicles.

Keep that up and you won't need to ride to be in that condition. Hearing loss is insidious, irreversible and life-long grumble mutter price of butter these days.

One thing I noticed when I tried an older Wulfsport was that the visor had distinct bends in it at the edges rather than being a continuous curve. This caused some weird visual artifacts even in daylight. I can't imagine that riding at night in the wet with headlights and such would be much fun with that visor. I dunno if they've addressed that with more recent ones, can anyone comment?

The visor on the one above seemed fine. It was the 2012 model, there is a 2013 model which I think just has a different pattern on the helmet.

My visor seemed fine, it's a 2011 model, I think.

I am worried about wearing earplugs though as I won't be able to hear other traffic around me.

I did ride in the wet in the dark with a 25W 6volt bulb on my moped with the Wulfsport. It's not too bad I think, but I was only going about 25MPH. Although like you say, when cars come towards you it can cause funny light patches coming through.

Edit: Glare is what I meant to say, I couldn't think of the word.

Another to add is the Spada Sting.

https://gpwheels.co.uk/image/cache/data/Helmets/STING%20BLACK-800x800.jpg

I have one as a second spare lid, picked up for £90 at the MCN bike show with a black visor, fits very well in XS (same size as my Shoei) and has a ratchet type strap. Lets in a lot of air from under the chin as would most of these, I guess, so mainly a summer helmet. It starts to get noisy at above 30mph, and above 70mph it does feel like the wind is catching under the peak a little.

Not such a light lid either, feels solid in the hands though and not too cheap/plasticky. Nice lining and comfort on the inside too. Perfect for popping down the street to the shops without messing above with D rings with gloves on, and looks badass Cool

I eyed up the spada when I got the 370. Also like the origine gladiator.
