For at least 5 years for owning a stun gun. I didn't even know they were illegal. When I saw it on the news last night I went straight down the Police station and handed it in.

Got to take my solicitor next week. They said it doesn't matter whether you were aware of the law or not. Possession of an illegal firearm carries a minimum jail sentence of five years.

Oh dear, hopefully they'll be nicer to you in court as you went and handed it in as opposed to being found with it on a street or something.

l own various illegal weapons but they are part of a collection l just don,t use them or carry them basic common sense

You wont be going to jail. If you have handed it in it's another fire arm off the streets.

I'm curious about this one though. Were watching dirty sanchez the other day an they were messing with a stun gun. Can you get licenced stun guns?

stun guns/batons, pepper spray, tazers, police batons, kutans (marshal arts weapons etc) . are all illegal



it is a crimal offence in the UK to defend yourself Evil or Very Mad

They actually had my address and were going to raid. They have been gathering intelligence by getting the invoices from the companies that sell them so they already had my address.

I only bought it for a laugh and didn't think it was a real stun gun, they're so simple. The site looked British and it turned out it got posted from France. I thought customs would have got it

And that is why you shouldn't of handed it in. You should of said you had found it or something, not that you owned it.

I'm worried about my brother because they also had his details as apparently he ordered a blank firer from the site. I don't know if he even has it but that is now classed as a firearm as well and he won't have had the chance to hand it in

They had my address anyway and were going to raid the house, they would have questioned me no end if I asid I didn't have it anymore. I thought I might as well hand it in and be honest with them

Honestly! You do what you think is for the best, then wonder why you bother!
Hope they're lenient with you - I'm sure you'll get away with a fine at worst - prisons are overcrowded enough with real criminals.

So will the police I would expect so someones not been doing their job 100% right and will be getting shouted at at some point when they find out.

They should look on the fact that once you realised that it was illegal you went and handed it in, which they'll count as the right thing to have done as it was I guess. Hopefully they will do, and at this point we can only hope. Your solicitor will be able to give you a much fuller picture of everything and what will be happening. Basically they should also see, fair enough you were not aware of the laws, but when you found out you immediately went and handed it in to the police which shows common sense and a view of "right & wrong" and you sorted the situation out once you knew all the fact.

Best of luck with all this. I'm really hope you come out of this without a custodial sentance as fair enough it was breaking the law but I think you've learnt your lesson and won't be doing it again in a hurry! Hope everything all goes well and the police are reasonable about it. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I handed it in as soon as I saw on the news that they were illegal. I found out at the police station this morning that they had my details and some firearms officers were actually at the station to do they raid

the police are usehall ok with it when you hand weapons in to stations, heard once that a bloke brought a .50cal machine gun in that he found by the river

I don't want to have to explain going to jail to every prospective employer in the future. If it looks like there is a chance of jail I'll definitely get the media involved

Just found this:

'While the possession of stun guns and CS sprays is punishable with a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and an unlimited fine, most cases are treated less seriously. Those caught attempting to bring the weapons into the country face having them confiscated but further action is rarely taken.'

A female friend of mine once used it on her shoe thinking nothing would happen, but got a shock. She is the only person that has tried it, after she did it I was a bit wary.
