LED taillight issues...

Recently the LED tail light on my 1999 Hornet has been playing up, one half of it dies every now and then, now however it seems to have given up completely on that side, however if I take the cover off and touch part of the circuit board with my finger it comes back to life for a little while, it also comes back to life for a bit if I blow a heat gun at it for a few seconds, presumably as heat helps create a connection? It will always go back to only a single side working within a few hours though.

Does this mean I am required to buy a new one, or is there any way this can be permanently sorted? I'm thinking the issues is a bad earth?

LEDS are wired in series, each LED has a safe working voltage of 3 - 3.5 volts. (So there are four to a 'cluster' 4x3=12).
You will probably find that one or more of the printed circuit lines has corroded or gone high resistance, just check each one with a magnifying glass. If the Leds light with some applied heat I would just run a new piece of wire to the failing rows.
Probably quicker and cheaper to give some more money to theChinks

As it has a common ground for all the leds I doubt its the earth/ground affecting only half the leds.
My guess is its a dry joint or crack on one of the tracks on the rear
Possibly near one the diodes. ( them black fings)
If you can remove the board and get at the back, a wee bit
of fresh soldering may sort it

Right, decided to get a new tail light, the issue is, when I unplug the current tail light, my rear indicators cease to work, however I don't believe the indicators are meant to be powered from the tail light wiring as standard? How would I go around powering the indicators when I put in the new tail light that only has wires to power itself?

Are those four unlit LEDs in your pic the turn signals then?
If so I guess you will need separate units if the replacement isn't like that.
