Hey guys, any motorbikes (please not motocross) that are 50cc that I could maybe look at? Preferably a commuter bike, but I'll take a look at some sports bikes too, I guess due to insurance purposes a commuter would be cheaper to insure. But yeah I'll google them if you guys hit me up with some decent (not chavvy) 50cc motorbikes! Looking for somewhere to learn as I'm 17 in about 4 months, so I better get started right?

Because I'm really desperate to get off buses that takes me an hour to get to college. I want to be able to get around.

I really wouldnt bother with a 50. Itll be a lot safer, less stressful and depending what roads you go by probably faster than a 50 on the bus.

Get a 125 that can keep up with the traffic and will last you a while Thumbs Up

Get a bicycle for now, then in a few weeks time you can get a 125, monies saved on the bus fare can go on petrol.

Derbi GPR, Senda...Aprilia RS...Rieju...There's loads. For 4 months, I wouldn't bother, get a 125.

They are just as expensive as a 125, but much slower, Insurance is a shit ton on sporty looking ones too.

Just be patient, 4 months!

While you're waiting get a book on learning to ride, it's well worth it.

Taking into account OPs' age I'd say that overall he asked a sensible set of questions, and actually took our advice! Bit of a rarity eh?

Btw, I was serious about the bicycle, it's a good way of learning basic handling and road craft.

Don't kid yourself, the future GP Stars ride GPR 50's in spain and would thrash any big sports bike on a small track. It's a sport bike, just not with much power.

How small?....a karting track maybe or a fairground remote control car track?

I ride a 50 and to be fair it's shit but at least it's giving me some no claims and road craft. I'm in no real position to 'upgrade' to a 125 or bigger machine cos of some personal reasons (as a yoof I had a habit of buying stuff I couldn't really afford. The downside of that is now I can't afford to eat).

*Buy push bike

*Put monthly insurance, fuel costs etc in a tin marked '125 fund'

*Celebrate birthday

*Buy 125

Honestly, for 4 months - most of which will be very cold I'd wait.

Also, a decent push bike is a far better investment than a 50cc, because it will allays be a useful thing to have, even when you have a 125. At 17 there is no real difference in insurance cost between a 125 and a 50, and a 125 is far more useful, will do 60-70 mph, a hell of a lot safer, and you will look like less of a dickhead!

Yeah I used to ride my bike a LOT and I still have it in my garage. I guess I could take some more rides on it like I used to. Thanks for the advice guys I think I'll wait now.

And when I said sports bike I meant a 50 with a sports body... not really that funny but okay.

Not a motorbike, not a sports bike. Sorry. Just because future racers ride them don't the bike any different.

I'm sure an SM would beat one on a dirt track too. However, it's not a sports bike

I have no problems with 50cc mate. Good on you Thumbs Up

But it's a ped

While you're waiting, get your theory test booked and passed. Have a good idea of how the roads work. Then get your CBT and a 125 and get learning. You could even think of doing your tests too, only 70 quid or so and you'll become a licenced up, non L plate guy.

It shows you're serious when you lose the Ls
