Just got back from quick trip to shops(on keeway 125) cash machine and friends house to drop something off. Bike was running fine until I walked back down their driveway and I noticed a rather large (12-15inches across) pool of oil, I waited for a few minutes and it had stopped dripping so must of just come and gone really quick. Am worried about it got work at 7 in morning and really don't want to stress it and cause something major!! I was taking it easy the only time the bike would of been really working is on the hill they live on which is preeeettyy preeeettyy steep. Wouldnt start up so after bumping it down said hill to get it going I managed to ride it home with clenched cheeks but bikes been turned off on drive way for about half an hour and no sign of any further leakage. Shocked

I think I may have topped the oil off juuust above the high level a few days ago, do we think that may be the problem?? Its about a third of the way up on the reading now so lost quite a bit !

Did you check the oil stick or sightglass before starting the engine once you knew you had oil loss?

If NO, please proceed to facepalm.

If YES, was the engines oil within acceptable limits?

If NO, please proceed to facepalm.

If YES, keep a close eye on the oil level before starting the engine, and take corrective action ASAP.

I know you are meant to check the oil on every engine you ever use (bike, car, lawnmower etc) before starting every single time. Of course in the real world no-one does it and most of the time we get away with it...

Sounds like it was overfilled and dumped the excess out the breather. Ignore everyone saying it is fucked, if the oil is in the lines on the dipstick/sightglass don't worry. Thumbs Up

If the window is 1/3 full then you are fine. There should be no permanent damage done.

ps - 15 inch oil puddle does not = juuuuust above the high level. Thumbs Up

I'd still be keeping a very keen eye on things. I am not convinced it is just the overfilled oil that has come out. I'd expect the engine to spit out the excess oil, not enough to drop you to 1/3 of the window.

Does the window have a min & max mark? Where is the oil in relation to that, when the bike is upright (not leaning over)

I thought I pointed out these points, but the bike DID have oil in before I started the engine up and rode home, it was 1/3 of the way between 'low' +'high' (yes, it was upright when I checked.) And checked it again when I was home and it hadn't changed, topped it (oil) up again this morning before work haven't run it since, just about to crack open the battery charger I just bought for my less than dead battery.
