Hi,

I've sold my SV650N and will be moving to Australia next week. However, my recent entry into biking may have convinced my Dad to give biking another go after 40 years.

He did his CBT and yesterday bought a 2007 AJS Raptor 125 to see if he still enjoys it before forking out for a full bike license. Personally I think the choice of bike will have a detrimental impact on that train of thought, as is the opinions of bikers on here.

Nevertheless, I rode it back yesterday for him since he hasn't got his gear yet (hoping I didn't crash and die which would be an embarrassing way to go), and it felt as if the throttle was sticking. After about 30 minutes of riding it would high rev at lower gears and I had to control the bike with the clutch which isn't pleasant trying to also follow road signs back home at roundabouts. I thought at first maybe the throttle tube was to blame but it seems to go back to the closed position.

We stopped and had a look at the bike and made sure the choke wasn't left on, and if the throttle cable was sticking. When the bike is turned off and on, the throttle seems to return to normal which indicates it isn't a stuck cable. What could the issue be, other than it's Chinese and should be set on fire?

This should really be in the workshop section...

Is it FI or Carbed?

Sorry, hopefully a mod can move the thread. I believe it's carbed.

Thanks for the response. I noticed there seems to be some sort of adjustment screw where the throttle cable reaches the engine. Not sure if this is to adjust idle or what. I don't think it was the throttle tube since the bike returned to normal when it was turned off and on.

You can probably see the throttle linkage moving on the carb, see if it resets properly when this occurs. If the throttle "Snaps" back then I doubt it's the throttle linkage as the spring on the carb usually takes care of this.

If you have to ask Question then that's the answer.
