Hi,

Help! this is now irritating me quite badly, there is nothing coming from the indicators or dash on my bike. I've swapped out the relay from another similar bike (same part number), checked power to the relay, fuse etc, but nothing seems to be wrong... They were working the last time I used the bike. I'm out of ideas, anyone? Smile

Cheers, Mark

Loose connection? Earth? Is the battery charged? Anyhthing different with the bike running ?

Are you getting power to the indicators ?

No loose connections, possible earth issue I guess, no different when running, battery perfect, will check power to the indicator connections when i find my multimeter, though there is power to the relay as when disconnected the bike won't fully prime when it's switched on... need that multimeter....

Only thing that's very annoying is why there's nothing displayed on the dash, normally an attempt at using an indicator gets you a very fast flashing green signal light. this isn't happening....

OK, I'm now armed with the multimeter. I've got power going to the relay as mentioned, also to the rear light loom, but on testing the connectors for the rear indicators, nothing. Not tried the fronts yet. Question is, what's my next move? to strip back the cable/s (seems to be both rears) to the loom and keep checking until I find power? I still can't help but wonder why there's nothing on the dash and nothing from any of the four when they we're ok.... Confused

Thanks for your help! Mark

It will likely be a corroded connector somewhere.
You'll just need to see if you can trace it back to a point where you have a live wire.
If you know which fuse is for indicators, start there.
You could also try bypassing sections with a spare piece of wire direct from battery or something.
Just try to work through it logically, you have the tools.

hi,
easiest thing to check is the bulbs......
i know this sounds too simple & you have probably looked at them, but ALL of them?
what about the idiot light? pull out the bulb holder (usually rubber & holds T5/T10 type bulbs) from your "dash" & have a gander.
i've found that if one of the bulbs go, on some bikes it shows as strange symptons.
once bulbs are all confirmed as working, work back to the relay, checking the wiring for any broken/corroded connections, & then check the relay is actually clicking like it should,
cheers,
GAZ

Once all above is checked check the actual switch on bars. Use continuity setting on multimeter, stick the meter in the connections between the handlebar cluster and main wiring harness and activate switch should let out a constant bleep if all is correct.

Then do the same at the relay end, not forgetting to put handlebar cluster plugs back to main wiring harness. This will confirm if the relay is being told to turn on or off.

An update. I've checked the power to each indicator and nothing. Now, after testing the expected behavoiur of a working indicator on another bike, the voltage is only present when an indicator is switched on (makes sense now but wasn't obviously to me). Knowing this and that the relay and fuse both 'seem' fine, and that nothing is present on the dash does point me towards the actual switch itself, i.e. as already mentioned the switch isn't telling the relay to do anything, hence nothing. I took this apart though and can't see anything damaged broken or corroided. Next question, is there a test I can perform on the actual switch housing. Disconnecting it from main loom and checking conntinuity from the connector makes sense (not done), but how can I test the switch itself without trying another switch? Thanks! Smile

Read my last post ^^^ perform a continuity test on the switch itself.
Put meter in continuity mode, connect to both terminals on switch and activate switch. Should display or sound continuity.
Repeat at each interval in wiring harness if switch test shows it working. I.E where the handlebar cluster joins the main wiring harness and where the relay connects to harness and any other connections in between ( will need wiring diagram to find if any more but there shouldn't be.

Also check the two wires going to the switch against the NEUTRAL on the battery - one should give you 0 volts and full continuity ( make sure relay and all dash is plugged in ) and one should give 12volts and and NO continuity ( again make sure relay and all clocks are plugged in) and IGNITION ON FOR TESTS!
