Banksy loads up a meat truck with puppets and has it drive around the meat packing district of New York.

Tut Tut Tell that to Joaquin Pheonix.

OK Laughing google tells me he's actually Puerto Rican.

But still this seemed like as good a thread as any to bring up a certain rather horrific animal cruelty documentary...!

He was selling original a4 sized stencil artworks in NY a few days ago as someone had been there last week selling fakes of his work. Lad. Laughing

$60 a pop since you ask.

That made the news.
Only 3 people bought.

An original Banksy for $60 is quite a good investment according to the arty person they interviewed.

Surely you like Banksy? He's a guy who draws on walls, who has conned the world into paying him to ridiculous money...

He's stuck it to the 'scum' (as you would put it)... gone out there and grabbed all he can. Is it just that he's successful that you don't like?

Now now, do I detect a hint of bitterness? Laughing

I'm not sure who you think he's "stuck it to". The rich? How so? I do know there are shedloads of far more talented artists out there, I've seen some of their work on the walls at 6th-form colleges. They get excluded every time some talentless prick comes along and takes a slot, usually because some scumbag like Saatchi figures he can whore money by backing their dreck. Tracy Emin is a perfect example to go with Banksy.

Ultimately though it's the common working man who funds their success, because as we all know every cost to the rich gets passed down to the man in the street.

No bitterness, just surprised.

I think he's managed to create a brand from nothing, selling only his craft and his idea. He's taken money from the rich, he's given a lot of money to the ordinary citizens in a roundabout way... the stall in new york was not his only act like that... i remember one where he modified Paris Hilton CDs in Virgin Megastore.

I don't understand the rules of your game...
You say everyone should grab all they can by whatever means they can (so long as it doesn't hurt others you class as ordinary). He's done that... I don't know why he isn't a hero to you...

If you claim that any act that involves the transfer of money is bad, then I don't get how anyone could win. Least of all someone in your situation...

The reason he's not a 'hero' of mine is because he produces nothing of worth. If his art was actually 'art' (whatever that means), or even just worth looking at, I'd doff my cap to him.

Would I take the rich man's money for crap work? Sure. But I'd never expect anyone intelligent to have anything but contempt for my crap, much less 'admire' me.

If he was selling something of value then it wouldn't be as interesting.

No, again it's a case of: Hetzer <---- -----> The point

The story of the emperor's new clothes is interesting, no? It certainly gets repeated enough times to be of some value. Surely the story of Banksy is similarly interesting if you believe his work to be worthless?
