On Friday evening, I dropped the CBF off to have a few bits doing to it, hopefully to be picked up midweek.

Thing is, this morning it was absolutely lashing it down and whilst I firstly forgot that bikey was on hols and went to put my waterproofs on ready for the trip to work, eventually got into the car and set off.

Saw a couple of guys out on 2 wheels and thought to myself, thank Bob I am in the warm and dry today.

I am sorry, I am new to all this, so know no better, I promise to get wet as soon as I get the old girl back.

Confession over Sad

Mike

Awaits the usual fair weather rider crap. Rolling Eyes

Very bad weather is unpleasant, if I had an alternative I wouldn't ride in it either.

I'm still drying my boots out from attempting my weekly commute from Somerset to Oxford last Wednesday. I got as far as Stonehenge in the pre-dawn dark and pissing rain before the bike started complaining too. I'm going to be doing that trip in the car until spring now. Just local and fun rides now.

I was riding my bike on the m6 in a torrential downpour last night. I watched a man spin out and go over the verge in his car. Thank bob I was in a bike, the narrow tyres cut through the standing water!

To be honest, if you have decent waterproof gear and a good pinlock in your helmet, riding in heavy rain isn't that bad.

Being a numpty and not taking waterproofs out from under pillion seat and putting on to do 50 miles in torrential rain is a very bad thing to do!! Embarassed

I had my waterproofs on and wasn't too wet apart from my boots, which were waterproof in pretty wet conditions last winter. My pinlock was working pretty well but the rain was sticking on the outside too much and I just couldn't see properly. I've given it another spot of washing up liquid. The thing that made me turn around was my bike starting to splutter above about 4,000rpm. It seems to be ok in the dry now.

Meh, I was toasty warm in my textiles, boots and with the heated hand-grips.

Plus doing the 20 miles from Bath to North Bristol in less than 40 minutes in rush-hour is also a bonus.

I've got wetter driving 40 miles to my friends (getting into the car and out the other end in pissing rain), compared to riding the 40 miles. Gear is fully waterproof, was fairly warm, and just kept my lid on until I got inside so was bone dry underneath.

I have just got a car though for winter, mainly for the snow/ice, but its been a week since I last used my bike...its just easier to get in the car to get to work (2 miles).

I actually prefer riding in the rain compared to the dry... makes it seem a bit more like a challenge to stay upright. Without the full rainsuit it would be thoroughly miserable though.

Its well worth carrying a small can of wd40 around with you if you get problems with the bike running badly in the wet, it'll disperse the water. Its usually at the plug caps or water getting into the coils depending on how exposed they are, water seems to find its way along the leads and into the terminal ends. A bit of silicone sealant can help as a more permanent fix. Spraying wd40 on to it all will usually get a bike back into life.

Just found cans of waterproofing spray in Aldi.

Got 4 to do the outer gear and a good deal on a tin of dubbing for the boots.

Lid got pinlock, funny thing is the bike is in the shop having the faulty heated grips sorted, so sorted for the winter.

(BTW, Van today, so quicker than anything on the road Smile)
