Ok not based in this country though there was a part in the sun (excuse the sources) saying that Theresa May will be looking into regulating 3D printers in this country.

Lawmakers push to ban PLASTIC gun anyone could make with a 3-D printer and slip through airport security scanners

Like anyone will fall for that.

BREAKING NEWS: UK Police announce lathe/milling machine amnesty.

Chief of police advises hobby machinists to turn in their tools before the GUN FACTORY!!!1one THINK OF THE CHILLUNZ ACT 2014 comes into force next month.

"It has come to our attention that a criminal could potentially make a fully functional safe weapon that would actually be useful with just a £300 2nd hand lathe on ebay and some steel. Such steel could be found in hardware stores across the country. Accordingly lathes have now been banned to make Britain safer for everyone."

Another clause in the act now restricts the sale of hacksaws, files and drills to people who have demonstrated "good reason" to posses such items. Potential applicants must demonstrate to the local chief of police that they are mentally sound and will not use the items to manufacture weapons. Above tools must be kept in a locked safe when not in immediate use to prevent criminal elements from stealing them and using them in underground gun factories.

"Such simple tools as a hacksaw and set of files can be used to manufacture crude but effective firearms. With such tools readily available to the public for the last few hundred years, it's a wonder than we don't see a deluge of crude guns flooding our streets."

Planning to melt a hole to Australia were we? Laughing

Seriously though, what worries me is that sometime these people are going to start to realise that *anything* can be a weapon. With a lathe, a drill and some metal you can make a gun (Not sure where you'd get the ammunition though). With a hot fire, an anvil and a hammer you can make a convincing sword. Hell, you can kill someone with a biro if you jam it in their eye hard enough.

I look forward to the pointy writing implements ban of 2016.

Expect them to start banning rubber bands beforehand.

At the extreme end:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOd6r2x-j7I

There's a video out there of Australian occupation troops going on weapons confiscation raids in East Timor. Gun possession is banned outright so the weapons concerned are piddly little catapults, powered by a number of office style rubber bands, used to fire flechettes, which looked like they'd been made out of nails with primitive flights. The troops were bitching that the flechettes go right through a flak jacket and inflict terrible wounds.

Give it time and the PC hide under the bed police will have banned or legislated everything to death. Ownership of anything pointy or non-fluffy will be strictly verboten unless it's painted bright orange, the relevant licence and paperwork are in order, and the necessary fee has been paid for the privilege to own or possess the scary, pointy thing.

Meanwhile if you're in any trouble, always ring the state authorities, and trust them to deal with the problem. Just not when your partner is in a diabetic fit, OK?

BUMP

https://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/384979/3d-printed-gun-parts-are-actually-spare-parts-for-the-printer

GMP police raid a man for printing a gun, which look like printer parts.

https://gigaom.com/2013/10/24/uk-police-seize-3d-printer-and-printed-gun-components/

Curiously enough the GMP website describing this has gone 404.

Take bets on what they fit him up with , like oh they just happened to find child porn on his computer.

Also note how the state propaganda are insinuating that he is already guilty:

Right, because making gun parts in a 3D printer is really such a threat Rolling Eyes

Even though any tit with a basic lathe and minimal knowledge can knock up a sten gun if he put abit of effort in as was done in the shipyards during the troubles.

But no, super complex 3D printer making little plastic components thats the WMD right there......

Why bother preventing real crime when you can pretend to instead Laughing

I never understood those modified knife points. Surely they'd make a bigger mess of someone, given that they've not removed the cross-sectional taper, and they've effectively introduced a second point? Bung that in someone and twist it, and you've done more harm than a conventional knife could if used in the same way.

The second point ain't pointy. You would struggle to stab someone.

I was talking more about the fact that it's still narrow in profile. Having a sharp tip is an aid to stabbing, but it's not a total necessity; it's still possible to use a knife with a tip that shape to stab someone, I'm sure. If they really wanted to make it stab-proof, they'd make it cleaver-shaped. Of course, none of this negates the fact that they've got sharp cutting edges.

Yep, crap stabbing weapon. Apart from the de-pointed bit, no blade guard to protect your fingers.

Better stabbing weapon. Under the ribs, up into the heart and they're a gonner, as someone round here found out a while back, when he tried tackling a car thief.

Don't tell the fluffy kitten saving PC lot tho, or they'll ban your tool box.
