i don't fancy a strap i think it'd come loose. and the adhesive ones aren't very flexible as it's fit and forget.

i also do solemnly swear never ever to vlog

First item in my link to ebay:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Universal-adhesive-camera-mount-clip-Drift-HD-HD720-Ghost-helmet-mount-/151007457373

The self adhesive bracket won't come off unless you really want it to, the camera adapter is quick release. This sort of mount is as 'flexible' as you can possibly get for a helmet.

When I had a drift camera I used this mount:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Helmet-Mount-for-HD-drift-HD170-HD720-X-170-/261316908304?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3cd7b39510

I found that the stock velcro wasn't good enough for the heavy Stealth (same as the x170 but full HD etc.) so I switched to using Dual Lock type velcro which worked out better.

The Drift cameras use standard 1/4" camera thread, so you can mount them down with generic camera mounts if you need to.

I mount mine on the side of my helmet with the sticky pad / plastic clip combo. The clips aren't that expensive bought separately; I have a half-dozen. But for more flexibility, I've put 3M dual lock velcro on one of the clips, so all I need to attach it elsewhere is some more dual-lock velcro. You don't need a huge amount of it to hold the camera on, depending on how big the other forces are.

how about taking the mounting of the helmet camera to the next level, and mount it on a gimbal??
