Any recomendations for trusted sources?

Thanks,

I'm happy to use them, only really if I can see them first though.

It all depends, surely. I mean, before I put my bike in hibernation whilst I grow a baby I had just put new tyres on it. If I was to get back on it, crash, and decide to sell the bike for spares, there's a bloody decent set of 'part worns' there for someone. But if I ride it around for another year say, every day, end up getting a couple of nails in em, repair em, and then decide on some new ones before the last set are totally worn, selling the old ones on, then they're probably on the verge of getting dangerous for someone.

My Dad owns a car garage and opted to stop selling part worn tyres long ago cos he doesn't agree with their safety on cars... that's certainly something to think about.

If you've ever bought a 2nd hand bike-you've bought part worn tyres.

So one guy or lass, rides around for a bit either decides they're getting down a bit or squared and changes for a new set. If they were on a bike just a week or so ago, what changes? Why are they suddenly unsafe.

Providing it's a decent deal and won't cost you a bomb fitting, definitely makes sense.

All tires I've had were pre-used, GPz and NC27. As I remember it was 4 front tires and 6 rear tires in total, still alive.

For the ZX7R I'm gonna get a brand new front tire and used rear tire.

EDIT: Average price of used tire, here: 13-15 pounds. I did 3000 miles on a used front tire for 13 pounds on GPz550. I was beginer so I didn't push it that hard.

Never been able to justify a part worn over new. When buying a used bike with them on, sure, no problem. They get used up. But when factoring my time getting the rims off, changing the rubber, putting them back on, I always figure it's a waste of effort only chucking on part worns.

Never really been happy with part-worn tyres, but that`s just me.

When my tyres start to square off a bit and handling starts to be a little bit different?, I change them.
They may still be road legal but they`re not at their best.
I am not comfortable with them and I`m not comfortable with the fact that someone else might put them on their bike.

What the tyre company do with them after I`ve finished with them is down to them as I have paid my disposal/green tax in the price of having the tyres changed .

I'd say for cost it can easily be around £50ph for the time spent versus money 'saved'.
Even if we're talking £20ph, you'd have to be on around £55k for it just be the same as say working overtime at your normal pay rate.

Worried that someone else might lean more and round them back up again? Razz

I wouldn't bother with part worn tyres personally, too much hassle removing wheels and changing tyres over more often than is necessary and you'll probably be buying twice the number of tyres simply to make up for the wear that they've already had. Plus they'll never feel as taut and together as a brand new unworn set of tyres. In my case I'd probably be looking at changing the tyre every other month if part worn, hassle.

When I had a commuter bike I would use the part worn tyres from my main bike and would fit them myself.I would also scrounge part worns from friends and if they only lasted 500 miles then I felt it was justified in my time and effort to change them.

But I would not used part worns on the R1 or the Exup.

A definite no-no as far as I'm concerned. I'd use them if I trusted the person who has last used them but otherwise I'd buy new. Buying part-worn car tyres is a minefield, it's reckoned that at least one-third of part-worn car tyres are unsafe which I can well believe; I don't believe that every reseller properly inspects each and every tyre as they are supposed to.

The condition of tyres on a motorcycle is more important that on a car and I wouldn't risk a smash-up for the sake of saving a few quid.

How many miles are you getting from a part worn and how much tread depth are you starting with?

Hi

Used them in the past, and will no doubt have part worn tyres again in the future.

All the best

Doesn't make time-and-money sense for me to visit a garage more often on anything that I'm intending to keep.

I'd throw them on a bike that I was just about to sell on though. Whistle

Well I just bought a pre worn metzler racetec about 10 minutes ago off a friend for £30 with a decent amount of tread left, and I have no issues whatsoever about using it.

In fact this is the third rear tyre I've had on my current bike, all of which have been pre worn (the first of which being almost brand new on the bike when I bought the bike itself.)
