Well....was bound to happen, just had my first crash due to a seriously poor misjudgement on my part filtering, dinted the side of a car and dropped the bike.

Bad times.

Damage not too bad, dent to front side of car and only damage to bike is slightly bent rear brake lever from when the bike wentdown.

So blokes calling me tomorrow, what do you reckon bestbactio would be? Offer to pay for repair? How much would it coat to fix a dent?

Also insurance rape wise, do I lose my ncb which I have, baringin mind my ncb iisnt being used on this policy?

It would be best to offer to repair away from insurance involvment. That way your NCB stays in tact. Cost is dependant on variable factors. Car make, garage etc. If you can find a decent body shop that would do the work cheap enough then your on a winner.

Dont forget the obligatory paint diagram.

that blows, you ok though?

i reckons offer to avoid insurance, if the cager is ok they will agree.

if he wants to go through insurance they will probably claim for whiplash, loss the use of their legs....flashbacks of a maniac on a bike smashing into them...well you get my drift

was the car old or new?

Hes calling me tomorrow, will offer to pay for repair got a rough idea from a garage based on my description of damage at a max of 350 which would be for new bodywork not just repair and repaint.

Fingers crossed hes a reasonable person

Yeah im fine, no injury it was very low speed and bike was essentially lowered rather than outright dropped so literally the only damage is the lever. Not a scratch on any of the paintwork or fairing. May have even been my foot that dented the car

Go through insurance and blame him for the accident, just because you were filtering doesn't make it your fault.

I'd still be tempted to go through insurance.

You may pay out in cash. But whose to say you don't get a claim for whiplash in the coming months? Do you really want that niggly doubt constantly bugging you?
He may insist on a repair quote from authorised whatsitcar manufacture and then you'll get a bill for a £grand or so.

It also looks bad on your insurance, if you haven't reported the incident. He could easily turn around and say "Some biker idiot was doing a tonne, riding like a loon, twatted my car then rode off. Gov".

Yes, good chance you'll lose your NCD. But ultimately premiums may not be so bad. I don't know your age/circumstances, but at 34, my policy came down from £380 to £230, when gaining my 1st year of riding experience, but adding an unresolved claim!

Ring your insurers now, stick claim in. You were filtering, perfectly legally, nice and low speed, then he tried swapping lanes without looking, smacked into you and took you out - correct? How else would an experienced and safety conscious rider like yourself manage to hit him?

Resides, you're a bit shook up now, got a couple of bruises, but in a day or too, you may find limbs/ribs whatever giving you some gip. Thus you may want to claim youself. How's your gear? Anything scuffed, helmet still alright, or did that hit the car and also need replacing?

Ultimately, it may just go 50/50 or whatever, but it's probably the best route.

Don't think that would fly the damage is obviously from very low speed, could have done as much damage kicking the side of the car so any 'he was speeding' claim wouldn't add up, thered also be damage to the bike other than the lever

Again makes me think I may have actually booted it, zero bruising to me and no scuffs to any gear

If you're tempted to take the advice of lying to your insurers, delete all previous posts! Wink

My advice..Have a chat with him and see how it goes. If he's happy for you to get it done that will be the cheapest and easiest way to deal with it. You could possibly write a little disclaimer for him to sign once you've done the repair.

Id also be after him signing something upon completion of repairs to stop him claiming after.

If they call I'd offer to not go through insurance and get one of the mobile dent repair firms to fix it and send you the bill.

In the past I've used Chips-Away mobile service except the one near me now does not do dents or even call round to give a quote after arranging a date and time with them. So not on my recommended list although one local to you may be better (it's a franchise operation after all).

This. This will probably happen. He'll go home and speak to a few people who will tell him that they all managed to claim £90 billion when a trolley scraped their car.

I'd go through insurance (mainly because of the above), give an honest account of what happened and then let them get on with it - this is why you pay for the fricking service - it's amazing the insurance industry have managed to get us all to pay the premiums and then made us scared to actually use them when the need arises.

Well you don't have to use insurance if mutually agreed repairs are made then it will be very hard for him to claim at a later date..

When i had a bike hit the rear of my car the chap said he wanted to pay for it so i took it to a local body shop i trust, sent him the bill and he went down and paid the bill..This way i am happy, what can i then turn round and claim for at a later date ? and he has a receipt saying he has paid for the damage and what damage was fixed..

I think under these circumstances it would be very hard for either of us to pull a fast one...

I know we have to be on our toes where shisters are concerned but i still think the greatest percentage of people are still honest, but everyone is getting so suspicious of everything and everyone..The only people that win are the damn insurance companies..

Be aware he may also want a hire car if the bodyshop has no courtesy cars.

If I needed my car on a daily basis then I don't see why I should have to go public transport due to someone else dinging my motor.

I scrapped between two cars at low speed and slid into the back of another. All of them claimed for whiplash. There wasn't even an impact for the first two vehicles. Be aware they will try and screw you.

If I ever cause an accident and I have no doubt that I'm to blame - I've vowed to myself that I'll accept 100% of the blame.
I can't stand the lying dick-less weasels who try to screw people over on this type of thing.

I agree with you. OP should keep it in mind though just in case the guy tries to screw him over with repair cost or a bullshit insurance claim.

I agree with this. It annoys me when people complain about fraudulent insurance claims then go and do the same thing themselves. I was invloved in an accident with another car which I personally believe was partly my fault and partly hers. As it turned out she started blatently lying to the insurers but ended up getting 50/50 in the end anyway so I was happy.

Find out how much the damage will cost to repair and do some insurance quotes for the next few years to see which one is more expensive (paying out now or paying out in increased premiums for the next 5 years).

Question remains on that ncb as ive not used it on my current policy, it was earned on a different bike/policy/insurer which overlapped. Have I lost that regardless of those details if a claim on this completely different policy is made?
