How come a wide variety of 125cc bikes are oddly expensive, and yet I see a lot of 600's going for less than 1K with no problems? Such a tease knowing I wont be able to really use a higher cc if I bought one

It's because of demand.

125s are in demand by pish poor younger people, because they are cheap to run and insure and the requirements legally to be allowed to ride one are not huge.

Older people will full licences return to 125s because they are cheap to run and insure.

This creates higher demand.

Bigger bikes cost more to run and currently there is an onerous licensing structure to be allowed to legally ride one.

The 600s you see going for 1k or less are generally pretty old.

125s are much more sought after than the 600s as you don't need a full licence to ride one and they are likely newer. Plus it's generally younger and less experienced people who buy them so they often won't know the real value of something.

Keep searching though and something will come up in your budget.

True. As said before overheard conversation of two checkout ladies. One was saying she's doing her bike test at the weekend. It'd be 2 years before she had to do it again Doh!

Still, choosing to ride on 2 wheels has to be supported, right? Confused

Also on topic had a look at Honda finance deals (might have been whilst perusing Victor Divine site Rolling Eyes ). A 125 scooter was more in monthly payments than a 600 sports bike (ok, to be fair there were some that weren't). I guess it's supply and demand, you can charge lots if it's something people want.

I've noticed that everything under 95bhp has gone up in price over the last year or so too.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a profit buying up cheap, powerful bikes and exporting them to somewhere with more lenient rules...

Probably not to be honest. It would seem that most other parts of the world are not really interested in massive amounts of power and would rather have cheap and chearfull small engined vehicles.

..With the exception of America of course.

Bikes with >95hp will generally use a lot of petrol. They are an even less practical proposition now than they have ever been. Retarded licencing rules have just accelerated this

Also, I would say that people that have big bikes have them because it's their hobby. Lets be honest, a 1200cc bike that does around 40 mpg is not really practical.

Most who commute that I know have bikes 600cc or below for their work and a big bike for fun. (except G who will be here to say why 1000cc gixer is a good commuter Laughing )

My ZXR750 J1 was a great commuter. The ZX9R wasn't bad. The VFR800 was boring and had the worst fuel economy off all three.
