My bike has Michelin Pilot Sports on, front is like new and rear is on the wear markers.

I don't thing Michelin Pilot Sports are made any more. I just find Michelin Pilot Powers.

Need a 180/55/17, although I swear a 98 gixer 750 srad needs 190/50/17??

Seems a waste of a front tyre and cash to get a pair.

What can I do?

You've been brainwashed like many people working in the motorcycle tyre trade that you cant mix tyres.

I currently run a Dunlop RoadSmart 2 tyre in front and an Avon (something) on the rear. Have done for the past 3-4k miles in all kinds of crappy weather. No problems to report - actually quite fond of the Avon!

No qualms about mixing tyres, I'd always try and get a stickier one for the front where possible.

You absolutely, definitely should never ever mix tyres - you really really need to get a perfectly matching pair - from the same batch, made in the same week.

If you don't then you'll surely fall off and kill many nuns carrying kittens.

(I'll take the nearly new front off your hands for free, just to do you a favour like)

Just buy a bloody rear, best one to choose is the one where you like the look of the tread pattern.

Erm no they aren't!

You've just named two brands (irrelevant of who owns what brand) and generalized every single tyre they make as the same, so in that case the Bridgestone bt021 must be the exact same tyre in every possible way to the Bridgestone bt016. Or every single Jaguar must be the same car as every single land rover. Rolling Eyes

I'd watch out mate, if you mix and match too much you could get HIV. Laughing
