No claims discount

Hi there,

Just wondering, do I have to wait right up until the exact day that my insurance ends or can I ask for proof of no claims discount slightly early? I ask because my insurance ends on the 27th of November and I'm itching to get on a big bike, but need to wait for NCD to save £200 on insurance,

Until you complete the year you don't have any extra NCB, they can't give you it early if it doesnt exist yet. You will have to wait 3 weeks

I thought as much, it's my first year having insurance so I wasn't 100% sure how it all works.

Your current insurer should send you a renewal letter any day now.

That will list your No Claims, and it's what a new insurer will want to see.

It is a bit curious, since you will get that before you've properly earned it. Play the game to your advantage though.

My renewal notice came last week, about 2 weeks before my policy ends, and it has my new amount of no claims on it.

I'm not really sure that the document saying 'one years NCB' is the actual important item (right now).

You could almost definitely sign up saying that you have 1Y NCB, then when they ask for proof, delay a bit until you actually have it.

Your issue is actually that if they get Extremely Finicky and ask for your old insurance cert or something, it will show that you've got a policy a few weeks early.

I'm not sure this would actually happen and I wouldn't worry about it. But yeah.

l believe insurance systems have moved on such that companies can now see what NCD you have. Bike Devil were able to confirm mine with MCE when they gave me a quote recently.

Agree with roger your renewal notice is your proof of NCD yes the companies can see but they still usually ask when you move companies.

Always used the renewal notice never asked a company to send me proof etc.

Aside, I took out both bike and car policies with Hastings Direct recently year (I know, I know) and in neither case did they ask to see evidence of No Claims.

Damn sure they will in the event of a claim though.
