Hey guys,

The names Matthew i'm new to this as the topic suggests, i'm basically just after some insight to licenses needed for; age, cc, bhp etc., and if me, myself are qualified for the bike I would be getting once/if I hopefully pass the required credentials Smile.

About me;
I am 20 years old atm and have been driving cars since i was 17, currently driving Audi A3 2.0 TDI SLINE my 3rd car ( also no crashes, claims or points ) and do quite alot of traveling. I have ridden bikes before although only off-road and only up to 250cc.

I was looking into getting a motorbike as a second vehicle for commuting the shorter journeys but motorway sometimes...

I was wondering also If the Honda Hornet 600cc would be a good first bike. (link listed below)

Quite a long-ish read with a few questions but any help is appreciated on these topics, thanks in advance Thumbs Up .

Sorry to say the CB600F isn't an option for you for a couple of years.

That being as the Hornet's original horsepower is over double the A2 restriction of 46bhp, and you cannot take your full license until either two years after passing your A2 license, or until you're 24.

You will have to first do your CBT, a one day course that costs about £90. After completing this you'll be able to ride bikes up to 125cc on L plates, no motorways or passengers. Following the CBT you can take the A2 test, this would consist of: theory test, mod 1 test (off road), mod 2 test (on road).

Quote:
Sub-category A2 motorcycles used for tests must:

    be a solo motorcycle
    be at least 395cc
    be between 25kW and 35kW engine power
    have a power to weight ratio no more than 0.2kW/kg

If the engine power of the motorcycle has been restricted to fit sub-category A2, the normal unrestricted power can’t be more than double its new restricted power.

You might want to look at this post for bikes you'd be able to ride with an A2 license.
