Hey Yodas of biking.

I did a bike check and it came back:

Not stolen
Not written off
Not scrapped
Not imported
Blah blah blah

BUT - it had a colour change in 2007 (bike is 2005 636) - went from 'Aluminium' to the current 'black'.

Is this ok, or is this an alarm bell/red flag?

Small deposit was paid but not made the purchase yet.

It may just be the owner wanted a different colour but i'd be concerned why you'd do that to a 2 year old bike.

Saying that though, a mate with more money than sense had his 12 month old ZZR1400 resprayed because he wanted to change the colour. After doing less than 1000 miles on it Rolling Eyes

I thought it might be nothing since no major alerts came back, and the colour change was registered, so it may well be a case of more money than sense, but I wanted to run it past this forum in case there is an angle of consideration I'm missing.

Bike has 2 previous owners and is being sold by a car dealer. Comes with only one key but dealer said he's booked it in at Kawasaki on wed to get a fully functional spare key cut for me. I got £300 dropped off asking price too. Just thought it worth mentioning all this in case it somehow relates to value/history.

Maybe he dropped it and didn't tell the insurers...
I assume a solid block colour is cheaper to be sprayed than a metallic colour.

It's possible. But most bikes are dropped, as long as they're fully repaired and clean after then shouldn't be a problem, right?

It probably is worth looking at the quality of the paint work.

Is it an original scheme?

And yes, a minor drop is rarely an issue.

I've emailed dealer to see whether it's a respray or OEM fairings. It's a distance purchase, so my eyes will see it in the flesh upon delivery after purchase. They'll accept return on the day at a charge of £200 for the delivery.

The DVLA could have cocked up with the colour on the initial registration.
Mine's dark blue but is classed as green on the V5.
Looking at the previous MOTs online it seems to have been blue from the start.
I should really get round to changing it at some time...
