Newbie biker

Hi, after many years of wanting a motorbike I now feel mature enough to have one.
So I bought myself a Chinese bike (cpi suv) and did my cbt in August to get some experience on the road before I go for my test, I've been driving for 5 years anyway.
I've a couple of thousand miles under my belt now and plan to ride thru the winter to get a couple more and take my test early next year. So I've a few questions
Any tips? I don't want to develop bad habits now.
Theory test, is it like the car one or is it more bike related?

Welcome to the forum Joe. It's far to late to get a proper response.

All the bad habits you may have been picked Will be worked out with training before you tests.

The theory Test is pretty much the same but there's obviously more bike related questions like tire depth, and questions about riding with a pilion.

How's the Chinese bike performing?

Not bad tbh, Cdi unit give up one day but it cost £6 to replace other then that it's been ok.
It just has a backwards gearbox

Push down for all up gears and pull up for all down.

That'll surely be confusing when you start riding a different bike :s As Brendan says the theory test's pretty similar, just more bike related questions. Hazard perception uses the same clips as the car one, I even got one of the same clips from when I did my car theory last August =)

There are something like 5 motorcycle specific questions in the "bike" theory test. You can get them all wrong and still pass. It's farcical, but there we are. You might as well pass it as soon as possible, a pass is good for 2 years.

In terms of bad habits, that arsey-versey gearshift would be number one on my list. You'll also have fun trying to sell it on - I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

If you post a picture of the gear shift arrangement in the workshop section, some boffin might be able to figure out an engineer solution for reversing it.

I dont find it to bad to be honest. I can jump on another bike and ride ok.
I went for a ride round town this morning, passed a bike shop and went in for a look.
There gloves ranged from £30 to £250 so whats the diffrence between them and the £20 ones on ebay?
Is it worth buying off ebay?
Armoured trouses in the shop was £100. Less then £50 on ebay for what looks the same.

I've heard a story once where a garage managed to accidentally reverse the gear linkage on a blokes bike. He got it back, kicked it into first (second), wondered why it felt a bit sluggish, accelerated a bit, changed up (down) and gave it more of handful than usual and executed a lovely wheelie into the nearest wall.
