It would be fairly insane to ride your bike if you knew the front brake wasn't working, or ride at night if your lights weren't working, but if you're horn wasn't working would you ride? I don't think I would.

Numerous times sounding my horn has prevented near certain collision whether someone pulling out on me from a side street, or someone changing lanes into me on the motorway.

The horn is your friend.

if you find that you /get/ the horn whilst riding your bike that is a different matter so go start a new thread about it ; )

I think a horn is essential on a bike, unlike a car where a horn is used to hurl abuse at other drivers, my horn gets used to get other drivers (usually car drivers) attention.

Of course the horn is still there to give abuse to the car drivers afterwards, oh and I am one of those people if I see a mate I will beep at them. Twisted Evil Embarassed

I would, last time I used my horn was at my MOT.

I'm quite a pateint rider and things don't annoy me, plus I dont think about using my horn, I just try and evade what ever is erm coming at me, like the other a car came into my lane with out indicating and nearly knocking me of so I just swerved and overtook the car and gave the driver the V's.

I could have used my horn but I wouldn't be here now as she would have hit me.

If it wasn't working though I'd be down at my local dealer sorting it out. Smile

Usually I end up pushing the starter button or something when I go for the horn... if I'm on a bike with a race can I find a few backfires usually alerts people.

Personally I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I had to use the horn to avoid a collision... if they haven't noticed you in the first place they may well not notice that it is them that is being beeped at... or worse panic because of it and do something stupid.

I would however quite like a large truck style air horn... so when someone pulls out in front of, for a split second they will think there's a 17tonne truck about pile into them at 60mph rather than a 170kg bike Smile.

If you heard my horn you would realise most people would wet themselves laughing to much to move out of the way! Also I would need to preempt using it by about 3 seconds.

You can hardly hear my horn over the race can, and yeah I can never find the damn thing in time either. Usually by the time I've pressed it it's too late to make any difference Laughing

I know there's a fairly big speed variation between bicycles and motorcycles, but would you ride a bicycle without a bell?

Cheers. I'd take it as a compliment if it didn't happen to be me

er back on thread, no I don't think I would. In heavy traffic it is essential during filtering to alert people you are coming through. I have to say I have blasted the horn on more than one occasion and people remain oblivious!

I have done before. It only wasn't working due to not being plugged in, and I didn't know it wasn't plugged in until the bike failed the MOT because of it. Laughing

Hi

Well, rarely use the horn at all. Tend to think that if I need the horn then it is probably too late to use it anyway, and I would rather use the effort to try and avoid the collision.

All the best

Keith

Generally horns are so crap on a bike you wonder why you bother trying! Shouting's normally louder to be honest.
I find that pulling in the clutch and revving the bike has a far better effect, especially on my TZR250.

I drove my 106 for over 3 months without a horn! Never worked out what was wrong with it, where it said it should be in the manual it wasn't so I can only assume it fell off. I quite like using my horn for when people piss me off but not having one certainly wouldn't stop me riding/driving it.

Well in 3.5 years on the road I havn't used my horn yet. The only time I touch it is sometimes by mistake parking my car, and at the MOT test.

I've found i've only ever used the horn to beep at attractive young ladies as i go past Rolling Eyes

But for warning other road users, i found the drop down a gear and rev the bike works so much better.. Especially with my knackered exhaust

Well becuase my horn is linked directly to my battery mine works when the engine is off, i normally have it disconected because my little nephew likes to mess about with it, holding it down for 5 seconds or so, so everyone ends up looking, so i normally have it off.

I have used my horn once so far, not for my benefit but to show an idiot that tried to cut Colin up on a roundabout that I was annoyed (or that I wanted to join in the excitement of the road rage!)

I think it's essential - your screams won't be heard.

I've used my horn quite a bit.. fuckwit's in traffic usually don't look so a blast of the horn is in order, but 99% it's AFTER they've done a stupid thing.. so just a warning sort of thing to remind them they are twats...
