I know this is a rather trivial but it annoys me a little Smile I did do a search to see if there was a previous thread about it but alas no.

Anyway to get into my work carpark I have to swipe my id card for the gate to open, there is no other way into the car park (apart from through the main building, which would be fun... once). I usually have my card in the pocket of my jeans but with the cold weather I'm going to have to start wearing my textiles or leather trousers which have no easily accessable pockets.

So the question is: where do you keep a fairly important card safe while riding but have it easily accessable enough that when you pull up to the gate it doesn't take an eternity to take off gloves and fish it out from somewhere?

I'm not keen on the idea of a lanyard round my neck as I will have to open jacket and potentially remove gloves to extract it from the holder before swiping.

Anyone got any ideas?

I still would need to unzip it and remove the card, which would probably require the removal of a glove.

My card you just stick in front of the sensor and it opens the barrier. So I keep mine in the little pocket on the back of my glove, that way I'm not messing with it when I'm coming in in the morning.

I always just had it in my wallet as it was used for the doors too.

If it's just for the carpark, I'd consider something around my jacket arm - my road crafter has a pocket there already.

Melt the plastic card in acetone and have the magic bits surgically implanted in the back of your hand.

Attach a card holder to your bike keys so you can just grab the card when you pull up to the reader.

I have to show my ID card on my bike and I can put it in my right hand pocket, slow down, unzip the pocket, grab the card and show it whilst rolling past using the clutch to keep me moving, then put it back in and zip it up all in one go!

I have mine on a lanyard which is attached to the belt loop of my jeans under my textiles. The pass is then in my textile pocket and zipped as far as it will go. Never lost a pass.

I have the same issue.

As I have a screen on the bike. I have a A5 pouch tapped to the inside.
Pass is on a lanyard in my top pocket. When I get near to work. Pass get pulled out of packet and pushed into pouch with lanyard hanging out.
When at gate. Simply pull on lanyard and swipe passed reader.

Other riders have then inside their jacket arm, or inside the back of their glove.

Could always get a waterproof pouch for your arm (think running mobile holder) on your arm.

A Tank bag Smile
A more expensive option, but would work and will come in handy.

I carry mine on a neck strap. It has a little clip so that it can pop open in an accident instead of choking me, but is quite secure otherwise.

Mine's on a lanyard that's attached to a belt loop on my jeans. Put the card in your back pocket, and just pull on the lanyard to bring the card out when you get to the barrier.

Tucking it in to the back of your glove is also a good option, although it's not necessarily safe for the whole of your journey.

So long as you don't actually have to swipe it (like a credit card) then back of the glove is best.

Otherwise you're screwed... Everywhere that keeps it safe is just as tricky as a slightly inaccessible pocket.

Ditto.

If you have to swipe it then you're buggered, if its a contact-less one, back of the glove.

I have multiple swipes to get in to work.

The pass card is credit card size it goes in to a small plastic holder and it attaches to a cord that goes round my neck.

It clips together at the back of the neck so it shouldn't choke me should I slide the bike

Attach it to the aforementioned retractable and keep it on your keys.

Have the same thing at my work and I use this. On your keys and saves you from unzipping pockets and trying to get it out with oversized winter gloves

The retractable thing is a decent idea, just means I would then have to take it off my keys once I'm at work as I don't want to be carrying my bike keys around all day but need the card. Although I wonder about: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Recoil-Retractable-Reel-YoYo-ID-Badge-Card-Holder-Multi-Choice-/231000052663

Anyway cheers for the suggestions Thumbs Up

Actually yes; thinking back, that's why I never had a problem, on the bike I'd just ride around Smile.
