Another new 'super' naked in the mix

https://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/ducati-reveal-new-monster-1200-and-1200s/23901.html

8 level TC and 3 level ABS. Not sure on the looks though, service interval sounds good

Doesn't ABS and traction control take away the fun?

Switch it off??

In the wet/winter I'd have it on otherwise I'll leave it all off. Maybe leave ABS on the lowest setting just in case Laughing

I don't know just seems to me these sorts of devices diminish the significance of rider skill and judgment. Exactly the sort of things that eurocrats would love all new bikes to come with to save us from ourselves!

Liquid cooled? Wouldn't be surprised if this replaces the Streetfighter in the lineup.

It does. There is no more SF, I don't think they sold that well

That's a shame. I really like it but I'd be reluctant to spend the ticket price on a new one.

This is just another monster, really..

Shit that's nice, I think I prefer that to the more angular designs that are coming out like the ktm and z1000 etc

Rear wheel looks ghastly.

I mourn the passing of the SF line up. They were good. Monster line up is dull, there were only a few trick versions that I liked. Such as the S4R, and S2R.

I no longer see the point of massive engined naked bikes. I ride a 600cc naked and its capable of around 135mph top end. The thing I found out is after about 90mph it becomes uncomfortable. Even with wind protection in the form of a fly screen you still find yourself hanging on for dear life when you hit the low 100+mph area.

The Duke Monster6 will do over 100mph. Do you really need double the engine size to be as uncomfortable at the same speeds?

Hell yes, bigger is better Mr. Green I've ridden the M750 on a motorway and whilst not exceeding speed limits that much as it wasn't mine, the wind blast was minimal, as was it on the TTR600. I didn't mind touch a ton on that.

Whilst I agree. There is something awesome about big engined naked bikes. Similar to convertible cars in that once you get to 70, the wind is the thing you notice most, however it's still fantastic that they exist.

I would quite like being able to nippon a litre bike from a standing start without fear of wheely or wheelspin, thank you.

How long before the blind speed gets boring? IMO it's more fun if it's a bit of a challenge to extract the best from.

You probably have a problem with your clutch and throttle control if you can't pull away without doing either of those things. I don't see the attraction in removing the skill needed to ride a bike from the rider, surely its a large part of what makes riding a bike interesting and more challenging than driving a car say.

I can't really say that I managed full throttle pull aways (so max power init) from a standstill without having the front wheel go skybound... Even on my lardy underpowered twin, it still heads up and away, I wouldn't mind some form of anti wheelie on my bike.

Surely your anti wheelie would be your throttle hand?

Have to say I enjoyed trying to launch the 954 well. Finding that balance between wheel spin (on a cold tyre) or wheelie (on a hot one).

It seems like cheating to just pin it at the horizon.

Nah not cheating, it's there, so use it Thumbs Up

Like launch control on the GTRs, bang it off the limiter, dump clutch and ride like the wind bullseye.

Big engined nekid bikes are awesome! Wind blast is there as a reminder, not an issue unless you constantly ride over a ton

Ducati only list the 848 SF on their website now Crying or Very sad

You can't compare the Monster with the SF. SF is the SBK without fairings and the Monster is pretty much an all rounder, you can use it for anything. Unfortunately the Streetfighter didn't sell well hence the reason it's being dropped

I'm keeping mine Mr. Green

Hold on a sec

Of the four new models that represent Ducati's industrial plan for 2014, three will be presented to the public at EICMA 2013, while the fourth is expected to launch early next year

Hmm maybe there could be an SF1199 on the way??

Like on the Priller APRC - hold it at peak power and dump the clutch, the computer fires you off the line and prevents wheelspin or wheelie. Do that on my bike and you'll be up and down like a nodding dog and slow as shit.

I'm not interested in feel and the experience, I'm interested in going quickly.

The last thing I'd want is a computer interfering with my riding! The satisfaction of riding a bike is all about feel for me and getting to grips with a bike, electronic gizmoes that would sever the relationship between the rider's input and the bike's response and take away the skill needed to ride it well would defeat the object for me. I think if you routinely struggle to pull away quickly without pulling a wheelie you obviously need to work on your throttle and clutch control really.

Fuck launching and being a hero I want the gizmos for when some twat pulls out on me. At that point I don't care about using my skills, I want everything that I can get to help me stop without crashing!

Looks wise it's ok. Shame it's a bike for dry days only, and is that an oil cooler in the stone-chip area?
Surprised it has *145bhp, would've expected Ducati to eek a bit more out of the lump. KTM's new superduke is pushing out 185bhp and it's only 103cc bigger.

*Suspect this reading is taken from the crankshaft and not the rear wheel.
